6 Charged With DWI This Fourth Of July Weekend

Three of the motor vehicle stops involved accidents

The Lacey Township Police Department arrested and charged six people with driving while intoxicated over the Fourth of July weekend, Lieutenant James Veltri said.

Kenneth Harmer, 20, of Beachwood was stopped on Monday, July 4 at approximately 11:15 p.m. after police investigated a vehicle that was struck on Haines Street.

Harmer was charged with DWI, driving while suspended, driving with no insurance, and driving a vehicle that was not registered. The investigation is ongoing and there is a possibility that more citations will be issued.

Also on July 4, Michael Morris, 22, of Forked River was arrested at 10 p.m. Morris was originally stopped for speeding on Route 9 but an investigation led to him being charged with DWI, reckless driving, speeding, and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

Morris was criminally charged with possession of marijuana 50 grams or less. The marijuana charge was on a summons.

Dawn Giordano, 45, of Whiting was stopped on Lacey Road on July 4 at 2:15 a.m. Giordano was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and refusal to submit to a breath test.

On Sunday, July 3, Bernard Kappen, 20, of Forked River was in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Manchester and Haines Street at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Kappen left the scene of the accident and was later charged with DWI, DWI underage, refusal, failure to report an accident, reckless driving, no front license plate, damaged windshield, failure to make repairs, failure to wear a seat belt, no drivers license in possession, unsafe vehicle, and maintenance of lamps.

On Saturday, July 2, there was a one-vehicle accident on Capstan Drive in Forked River near the Sunrise Beach Club at 9 a.m.

Kris Singer, 28, of Lanoka Harbor was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Singer was criminally charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance- cocaine- on a summons.

Richard Kuhn, 49, of Belvidere, NJ was also stopped on July 2 near the intersection of Route 9 and Beach Boulevard at 11:15 p.m. Kuhn was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane.
