3 Injuries Sustained During Hazelton Avenue Fire

A Hazelton Avenue home is uninhabitable after a fire ignited on the second floor

Two Lanoka Harbor residents and a firefighter sustained injuries after the second floor of a Hazelton Avenue home was consumed by a fire Sunday, officials said.

The Lanoka Harbor Fire Company responded to the scene at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and the blaze was controlled by 6 p.m., Chief Jack Amrozewicz.

The fire was confined to the second floor of the two-story home but there was water and smoke damage downstairs, he said. The home is currently uninhabitable.

The cause of the blaze is still undetermined and is being investigated by the Ocean County Fire Marshal.

One resident received burns, Amrozewicz said. Lanoka Harbor EMS would not release the names of the residents or the nature of the injuries. The residents were transported to Community Medical Center.

A firefighter also sustained a cut to his hand but refused medical attention, Amrozewicz said.

The Forked River and Bayville fire departments as well as Lanoka Harbor EMS and Lacey EMS also responded.
