2 Pennsville Residents Charged With Shoplifting

DWI's, thefts and criminal mischief from the past week

Two Pennsville residents were detained for allegedly shoplifting from the Lanoka Harbor Walmart.

James Kugler Jr., 19, and Richard Therrien, 20, were being detained by the store’s security on the suspicion of shoplifting when Lacey police responded on Monday, June 4.

Police found that Kugler had $170 worth of merchandise while Therrien had $43 worth of merchandise. Both had attempted to leave the store before they were detained.

Kugler and Therrien were arrested and transported to headquarters. Therrien was released on a summons after being processed.

Kugler was found to have an active warrant from Pennsylvania. He was charged for shoplifting. Unable to post $500 bail, Kugler was sent to the Ocean County Jail on Lacey’s warrant.

Lt. James Veltri provided the following information:

June 3
A resident of Station Drive reported a burglary. The detached garage was entered and a window valued at $600 was entered. 

June 3
A Lacey resident reported that between the end of May and June 3, a light blue kayak was stolen from the rear of their property. The kayak was valued at $500. 

June 3
Police responded to Sweet Kate’s located on Route 9 where someone had broken an exterior umbrella valued at $75.

Police also responded to the business on June 1 on a report of a damaged outside park bench. There was $100 in damage. 

June 2
Edwin Cruz, 27, of Forked River was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving after police investigated a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 at 1:10 a.m.

Upon investigation of the accident, police observed a pickup truck traveling towards the scene. The truck was operated in a careless manner, police said.

Police conducted a motor vehicle stop and charged Cruz. He was also criminally charged with obstruction of administration of law. 

June 2
David Rappleya, 35, of Toms River was charged with DWI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane after police conducted a motor vehicle stop at 10 p.m. on Route 9. Rappleya was originally stopped for failure to maintain lane.

A Sweetwood Drive resident reported that during the early evening hours, someone entered an unlocked pickup truck. Approximately $2,607 in cash was missing from within the vehicle along with a wallet, which contained personal identification as well as credit and debit cards. A second victim said that their wallet containing personal identification was stolen from the same vehicle. The value of that wallet was $33. 

June 1
Jerry Campbell, 60, of Bristol, Pa. was charged with DWI and reckless driving after an off duty officer contacted the police department at 2 p.m. reporting a possible intoxicated driver leaving Home Depot.

Officers responded to St. Pius on Lacey Road where a Pope Pius IX statue located near the front of the church was damaged. The statue had red markings on the face, possibly spray paint, police said. 

May 31
A resident of Lawrence Drive reported that over a two-day period someone stole paper prescriptions for Roxicodene and Flector from within the home. The investigation is ongoing and police are working with the doctor and area pharmacies.

A resident of Edgemere Avenue in Forked River reported that someone entered the home and stole a Nintendo DS, a Pantech cell phone and assorted medications. The value of the missing items was more than $500. There was no forced entry.

A resident of Browns Mills reported that numerous fishing reels and rods and two tackle boxes were stolen from a boat in the water at Lacey Elks. The value of the stolen property was $1,500. 

May 29
Matthew Cocoran, 32, of Lanoka Harbor was arrested on the strength of $4,000 in various warrants after an active patrolman located him at 10:30 p.m. on East Haines Street near Cedarwood Drive. Cocoran had a $2,500 warrant from the Ocean County Sheriffs Department, $1,000 from Stafford Township, $500 from Lacey and $182 from Somers Point. He was sent to the Ocean County Jail.
