Off-leash dog park for Lacey!

Lacey Township has so many beautiful parks for every sport you can think of, but isn't it a shame that we don't have an off-leash park for our pets.  I'm aware of the park at Miller Airport but it's just too far from Forked River to make that trip every day.  Please Lacey Committee, find a way to make this happen for us.  We and our dogs would love to have this facility right here in Forked River or Lanoka Harbor.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

Let your puppy poopie in your own backyard.

The actual purpose for an off-leash dog park is so that our pets can get some real exercise without being tethered. They also become meeting places for pet owners as they get to know each othr thru their pets

Is it a law that you must keep your dog on a leash in Lacey Parks? If it is, lobby to change this law. It would be revenue neutral. We don't have the money to build a dog park and even if we did, how is it my responsibility (a non dog owner) to help pay for something that I am not going to use?

There is an ordinance in Lacey that our pets can't walk on the grass, have to be on walkways or macadam. That would eliminate being off-leash.

Wow, a pet can't walk on the grass? That's a pretty dumb law and should be changed. Also, as long as you are confident that your pup isn't going to attack others, it should be permitted to run free in the park. And should one misjudge the temperament and behavior of their pup, they ought to be held responsible for its actions.

@Robert - good to read you again...haven't seen you in about a week or so.... I just read your post re: dog park.... You say: "how is it my responsibility (a non dog owner) to help pay for something that I am not going to use?" Well, I don't have kids using Lacey Schools (or any schools for that matter) so why do I have a big portion of my property taxes going to them... The youngest member of my present family (meaning living under my roof) is a 9 month old puppy... I'd sure like to "socialize" him with a bunch of other dogs and people too... Wish I could take the tax dollars I put toward superintendents, asst. superintendents, administrators, asst. administrators, bullying director, asst. bullying director etc., etc., etc....and redirect those dollars to a couple of acres of dog park... Ha ... Yeah that will ever happen... Just sayin...

@Joey Joe: I do not believe you should have to contribute to the public education of someone else's child. But nor do I believe that I should have to pay for a dog park. You are right though: nothing will change.

For the most part, I like dogs more than people.

The simplest solution that won't cost a penny is to turn one of the existing parks, for example Bamber Park, into an off-leash park. It's worked in many other places.

@proud - agree with you... I've never had a dog lie to me !!! Can't say the same about people.
