Democrats for Change of Ocean County asks residents to get involved in the 2011 election season

To the Editor:

Entering the 2011 election season, the people of Ocean County have a great opportunity to change how government works in our county. This year the Democratic Party can take the majority in several municipal races.

Although some would contend that Ocean County is purely Republican territory, the fact is that Democratic registrations have nearly doubled and are closing in on the number of registered Republicans. In addition, the ranks of unaffiliated voters are still greater than both Democratic and Republican registrations combined.

Decades of Republican control has led to ballooning property taxes and decreasing services. Taxpayers are shouldering a larger burden in keeping the “friends and family” form of government intact. It’s time for the people to step in and say “enough is enough.”

Lacey, Brick and Toms River all have an unprecedented opportunity to change the majority in their municipal races, and they need your help. There are qualified candidates running on the ticket in Barnegat, Beachwood, Berkeley, Lakehurst, Lakewood, Little Egg Harbor, Mantoloking, Ocean Gate, Pine Beach, Point Pleasant Borough, Point Pleasant Beach, South Toms River and Surf City who would welcome your help in their respective races.

As a member of Democrats for Change of Ocean County (DFC), a group working to return Ocean County to the voters and revitalize the Democratic Party, I am asking that you get involved. Members of DFC are actively supporting the local Democratic Candidates running for office in Ocean County and would like to encourage you to support these very capable and accomplished citizens.

It’s time to take a step forward to move Ocean County in the right direction.  We have excellent candidates, who have the vision and leadership skills to build a better future for our citizens.  We are asking you to get involved and to help elect a more balanced representation in Ocean County.
