An Open Letter to Governor Christie in Response to His Explanation of Recent Decisions 10 Sep 2013

Growing Stronger for Your Safety!
Growing Stronger for Your Safety!
Dear Governor Christie,

With all due respect, in the state of New Jersey the average law-abiding individual has no ability to exercise the right to bear arms. That is true even if that individual holds a carry permit anywhere else in this wonderful Nation. If someone lives in a state where they hold a carry permit and they cross the border into New Jersey, they immediately become a felon, unless they are willing to be disarmed. If you happen to reside in New Jersey, you will not be allowed to bear a firearm here no matter how law-abiding or qualified you are, unless you can prove that there is an  immediate threat to your life. How would one prove such a thing? Why is that requirement necessary or even legal?

The purpose of the Second Amendment has little or nothing to do with any of the things you talk about in your response. The purpose of the Second Amendment is to keep the power in the hands of the people, where it belongs in a government of the people, by the people and for the people. The Second Amendment was intended as a warning to all three branches of the United States Government not to infringe of the people’s ability to bear arms against the possibility of Tyranny. That warning protects an individual right as determined by SCOTUS in the Heller decision and was clearly extended to apply against the States in the McDonald decision. While those decisions do allow for reasonable regulations, the exercise of the right to bear arms is effectively banned in the state of New Jersey. That is far from reasonable. The so-called “justifiable need”  requirement disarms all United States citizens who either live in, visit or pass through our beautiful state.

The highest law of this Nation has been ignored and rejected by the government of our state. Eventually, New Jersey will be held accountable for breaking the Federal prohibition against the infringement of the individual right to keep and bear arms. The people of this Nation will remember those who either neglected to take the opportunity to correct this abrogation of our freedom or who tackled it head on. I hope that you will make the correct decision.  I hope I will still be around to remind them.

Most Sincerely,

Frank Jack Fiamingo

Very good article: thank you for bringing attention to the fact that NJ effectively prohibits law abiding citizens from carrying handguns as well as to the real reason behind the amendment. NJ's laws blatantly violate the 2nd Amendment. Furthermore NJ's laws are tyrannical and their enforcement is nothing other than enabling tyranny. Municipalities need to nullify these bad laws and vindicate the rights of their citizens. The only critique I would make is that you refer to this nation as wonderful. I would refer to it as previously wonderful and the government certainly is not of the people, by the people and for the people. It is a government OF greedy opportunistic politicians, controlled BY the money interests, and FOR the latter two. It certainly ain't for the people!

I get your point, Robert. When I think of this nation, I think of the overwhelming majority of INDIVIDUAL that only want what is best for themselves and their families. If we could teach them to stand up for the individual Liberty and accept the individual responsibility that goes along with that, we could win this battle. Thank you for your comment.

I commute to work every day. There is no way those lunatics on the road should be entrusted with a CC license. Personally, if I were out in public and I saw someone with a gun, I'd run like hell then call the police. There is no need for that here. None at all. In my 50 years on this earth, my relatives before me, and those after me so far, a CC has not been needed. They should carry with it the same insurance and responsibility that owning a car has, with testing, and medical restrictions. I hear Vermont is really liberal with their gun laws, and it is a pretty state too, you may like it there.

I earned these gray stripes, I wear them under my hair coloring, but I sure as heck did earn them! :) And ty, Proud. Tiger stripes earned in Jersey is no small thing.

You go girl!
Robert Yates September 14, 2013 at 08:23 PM
Vermont does have very liberty oriented gun laws (perhaps the most liberty oriented) and they have next to no violent crime. The same can't really be said for NJ. But don't let common sense; the Constitution and facts stand in the way @ Abby Normal. I have already treated your ridiculous suggestion that I move away, so I won't do that again.

That's one of the great things about freedom, that choices and options are available to all of us. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Pun happily used!
Robert Yates September 14, 2013 at 08:34 PM
They are not available in NJ, even though the Constitution specifically protects that freedom. You can't hide under the lie that we are free.
Robert Yates September 14, 2013 at 08:38 PM
@Frank: you are quite right. Education is quintessential and the word is stronger than the sword, so we can be hopeful about that!

Thank you Robert. I understand why people feel like Abby feel threatened by people carrying firearms. They make the assumption that an otherwise normal, law-abiding individual is suddenly going to lose their mind and shoot someone over a trivial issue. It isn't rational, but I understand it. Most of the people who who decide to carry already have firearms. They own rifles and pistols. They are already trusted to own guns. If they were the kind of people Abby is suggesting she see on the road every day, there is NOTHING stopping them from using there guns illegally. Why does she think that a person who is willing to go to prison for KILLING someone would not ALREADY be carrying a firearm. The answer is, a person who is willing to kill another human over being cutoff on the parkway doesn't care about the gun laws, and the law-abiding person is not going to shoot anyone. Abby is just being silly. But thank you for your comment anyway, Abby.
