Salvatore Pezzino, World War II Veteran, Dies At 89

Salvatore Pezzino, 89, of Lanoka Harbor, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 6, 2014.

Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington, Toms River and Whiting before moving to Lanoka Harbor. He was employed with the Operator Engineers Local #68 for maintenance and repairs on buildings. Prior to that he was employed with Essex County as a Stationary Engineer for Turbine Boilers.

He proudly served his country in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division, during World War II. He is the recipient of two Bronze Stars and received the Purple Heart for his valor in action.

Sal is predeceased by his son Joseph. Surviving are his children; Debra Manley and husband Tom, Barbara Morrone and husband Damian, Patricia Bajcar and husband Jack, JoAnne Chodak and husband Craig and Sally Trappe. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to the 11:45 a.m. service time, in the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Burial will follow to New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sal's memory to the American Heart Association, (heart.org), would be appreciated.
