Really?? Are Children a Valid Excuse to Deny a Rental Application?

No kids allowed... really???

Recently my rental application for a four bedroom house was rejected. The reason you may ask...

I have children. I am not one to hold on to negative energy but, this situation really bothered me. Was I really discriminated against because I have children? The answer is... yes... I absolutely was.

I understand the owner has the right to decide whom he rents too but I cannot wrap my head around the reason. I would think family over a single person. However, that would be reverse discrimination on my behalf to think that way.

The reason they did not want to rent to a family with children was insane to me. They justified the decision by stating, "Children cause massive wear and tear on a house."

My answer to that statement.... no... in reality my children assist in maintaining my home. They have daily chores they are responsible to do. Not to mention the fact I did not raise them to be wild animals and they are very respectful. We do not even wear our shoes in our home. Plus we all have extreme OCD and cannot function if a pillow is out of place on the sofa.

I am really furious about this. I know I need to let it go and move on but first... I want to know your opinion.

Do you agree that children cause more wear and tear on a home and I am over reacting, or would you feel discriminated against if you were in my shoes?
