Where's the Cheapest Gas?

Comparing fuel prices in town

For many Lacey area motorists some relief has been observed at the pump as prices stay in limbo. Is this good news? Well sort of, we may have peaked but we’re not out of the water. Some fuel experts are predicting this may be the summer’s pricing trend; or in other words they may not drop to last year’s prices and probably will not increase at the rates observed in the last several months.

The national average for Friday, May 13, according to AAA, is $3.98 (no change from last week) for regular, $4.12 (no change) for midgrade and dropping to $4.24 (from $4.25) for premium. For the daily national average please visit: fuelgaugereport.aaa.com.

Locally, Lacey residents are slowly inching towards national averages but not quite there yet. New Jersey State averages are at $3.89 for regular, according to AAA; Lacey Area averages are relatively concurrent with the surrounding state. Next week will be a good indication for what summer will bring.

In addition to finding the cheapest gas around it’s also important to take into account other ways to cut down on your gasoline bill. This week’s tip is to assess your lawn cutting equipment and consider switching over to electric powered tools. With summer rearing around the corner lawn mowers and weed-whackers will be in full use and of course more gas is used. Picking up an electric mower and other rechargeable battery operated equipment will save the average homeowner one to two gallons a week in gas. Other benefits are that they are quieter, less harmful to the environment and cheaper in total price to that of gas operated lawn equipment.
