Residents Blast Township Officials For Stance On Outside Music At Latitudes, Captain's Inn

DelaCruz says she now regrets voting for ordinance amendment that allowed outside music at restaurants until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays

Danette Graham had a few choice words for Township Committeeman Sean Sharkey after a lengthy meeting last night at Town Hall.

"You people should be ashamed of yourselves," she said, as Sharkey left the meeting room.

"Have a nice night," Sharkey replied.

Graham was one of about 20 angry audience members who live near the Captain's Inn and Latitudes restaurants off East Lacey Road. They are upset over loud late night outside music, residential streets crammed with cars, patrons destroying private property, and in some cases, even relieving themselves on lawns.

They peppered Township Committee members and Mayor David Most with pleas turn the clock back to 10 p.m. for outside music at the two establishments on Friday and Saturday nights.

Most said he and Police Chief David A. Paprota had already met with the restaurant owners recently to discuss the problems.

Most promised to meet with the owners again on Thursday and Quinn said he planned to discuss the matter with the chief again in the morning.

The residents have been mainstays at Township Committee meetings ever since committee members voted in late May to extend the outside music hours from 10 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays through Labor Day in what Most called "a pilot project."

"It's not fair I can't get up and down my street," said Beverly Krai, who lives on Port Street. "I have the drunks coming down my street. They hoot and holler. I don't want to hear it."

Township Committee members in June agreed to amend the waiver to to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, after receiving a barrage of complaints from area residents.
