Pedestrian Attacked After Refusing To Give Up His Cell Phone

Incident happened at Lake Barnegat Drive near Ernest Drive at 10 p.m. Sunday night, police chief says

Lacey police are looking for two white males and a white female believed to have been involved in an assault on a Lanoka Harbor man who refused to hand over his cell phone, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Alex Edgeworth, 22, was walking on Lake Barnegat Drive near Ernest Drive at 10 p.m. on Sunday when a small white truck with three occupants pulled over. One occupant asked Edgeworth if he could use his iPhone 4, the chief said.

When Edgeworth said no, one man sprayed him with an eye irritant, got out of the truck, knocked him to the ground and stole the phone, Paprota said.

All three of the truck occupants are described as being in their twenties. The subject who assaulted Edgeworth had short brown hair and a "scruffy" beard, the chief said.

Detective Robert Surtees is investigating.
