Forked River Man Charged With DWI After Driving Into Utility Pole

The Forked River man who crashed into a utility pole last week was formally charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of heroin and more.

Ryan Bacon, 24, of Forked River allegedly drove into a utility pole at the intersection of Route 9 and Beach Boulevard at approximately 10:34 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, police said.

Firefighters had to cut Bacon and his pet pit bull from the 1996 Ford pickup truck. Bacon suffered injuries to the head, hand and leg and was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.

The pit bull was released to a family member and had no signs of injuries.

Both the utility pole and the pickup truck sustained heavy damage. A portion of Route 9 was closed for several hours due to the accident.

Bacon was charged with DWI, reckless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of heroin, and possession of a hypodermic needle.

A $1,500 warrant was issued for the possession of heroin and a summons was issued for the possession of a hypodermic needle.

The Lacey EMS and the Forked River Fire Department responded to the scene.
