Did You Know? A Look at Lacey's History

Five facts about Lacey's history

This is a feature that looks at five facts of Lacey’s history provided by “Lacey Township People and Progress,” a book written by Dr. Ralph K. Turp and stored at the library. 

1. On Dec. 5, 1871, telegraph lines were planned. They were completed by May 30, 1872.

2. The railroad served the area for 64 years, carrying passengers and freight.

3. Trains were required to stop at Lacey Tract. After a train blew through a stop while being signalled, the trains were required to stop.

4. The railway company experienced financial difficulties and began selling the line in October 1879.

5. In the 1880s, a substantioal home was built facing Lacey Road, owned by Arends, a nurseryman. The estate was later purchased by Jackson Britton and farming became more common.
