Eating, Drinking and Cooking in South Jersey This Weekend: Ice Cream for Breakfast, Groundhog Day, Food Swap... and That Game

Wings, beer, waffle a la mode...all that good stuff that makes America great!

People have been waiting for this weekend for quite some time. After all, there’s a special event that we can all, by and large, come together and enjoy. I am speaking, of course, of the International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day! No, I’m not kidding…there really is an International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, and it falls on Groundhog Day this year. Certainly you can celebrate in the privacy of your own home with the ice cream of your choice. You could also head on over to Arlene’s on Asbury in Ocean City to partake of this special day.

OK OK… you’re all giving me the stink eye now.

Yes, I know the Super Bowl is Sunday. And yes, there are loads of places that will having game parties and take out specials and such. So many that I’m not even going to attempt to put together a list of such place. If you’re going out, you need wings, you need beer, you need a big TV, and you need your buds with you. Everything else is just superfluous.

If you’re not into the big game, there are a few other food events that don’t involve mobile quarterbacks and coaching brothers. Friday is the Wine, Dine and Win! event at The Mansion in Voorhees. The event is a fundraiser for the Evesham Education Foundation. It all starts at 7PM and is $75 per person.

Gallagher’s Burger Bar at Resorts in Atlantic City is having a reservation-only Craft Beer & Small Bites evening on Friday from 7PM to 10PM. The cost is $25 per person.

Friday is also the day that Geraghty’s in Burlington launches its new menu from their new chef William Gilbo. The launch begins at 6PM.

Saturday is Swap Day! Yes, I know…it’s Groundhog Day and International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day as well, but let’s also throw in the fact that South Jersey Swappers are having their South Jersey February Food Swap on Saturday at Landis MarketPlace in Vineland. The swap runs from 10AM to 12PM, and you need to have food swap in order to swap. You also need to sign up first.

Speaking on Groundhog Day, it’s the annual Groundhog Day Dinner & Auction at Ewan Fire Hall on Ewan Road in the town of Ewan.

If you care to venture out of South Jersey this weekend…

Big Onion Walking Tours in New York is having a series of Multi-Ethnic Eating Tours that will explore the Lower East Side, starting with this Sunday at 1PM. The cost if $25.

Here’s your cooking class schedule for the weekend:

Friday: Global Small Plates by FOOD & WINE Magazine and Date Night: Wine Lover’s Feast at Sur la Table in Marlton, and Teens and Tweens: That’s Italian! at Kitchen Kapers in Moorestown.

Saturday: Super Bowl Bash at Viking Cooking School at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, Mastering Seafood at Sur la Table, Chinese New Year at Kitchen Kapers, and the first class of Health & Wellness through Ancient Spices at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell.

Sunday: Grilling Party at Viking Cooking School, Valentine Macarons and Luscious Chocolate Truffles at Sur la Table, and Kids in the Kitchen: Comfort Foods at Kitchen Kapers.

And as always, check out our website for our dining experiences and other upcoming events!

@proud-- I couldn't agree with you more. I found it quite ironic that she has a blog on Lacey PatchRead More on which she gives her profile, and it never once mentions her employment with Wall Township. Things that make ya go hmmmmmm.

It's WHAFIS, not WHALIS, and it MUST be incorporated in the overland wave propagation modeling. I'veRead More been telling you this for weeks @Spooner. I offered to discuss it, but you were caught up on some sand blaster theory. BFE's will certainly be affected. As a sidebar, the author of the link mentioned mixed up the mapping terms. We currently have effective maps or FIRM's which establish BFE. The maps (ABFE)that were released in December and adopted as the state building code (+ freeboard) are advisory (incomplete and wrong). Working maps are due out in a few weeks followed shortly thereafter by preliminary maps, which are the maps that can be appealed. Approximately 18 to 24 months after the release of the preliminary maps there will be new effective maps (new FIRM's) with new BFE 's. If the preliminary maps are not drastically different than the ABFE's, you can count on a mass of appeals, and quite likely, protracted litigations.

@Spooner, I have something that you may want to read. Go to the Borough of Mantoloking website. OnRead More the right hand side is a column entitled Post Sandy Information. Near the bottom is a tab called "uncategorized". Click on it and there is a letter used as the Boro response to ABFE. It is very telling and makes a lot of sense.

Congrats, Pat. You deserve this. Despite all you've been through, you kept it going with your job,Read More your writing, and all the "chronicles" that expressed the plight of the Sandy victims in a way that no one else could. That has been so appreciated.
