Eating, Drinking and Cooking in South Jersey This Weekend: Chili for Chilly Weather

You got your chili, your wine, your Greek food, and of course your muskrat.

Hello Patch readers! Yes - we have been absent lately. Been pretty sick for a while, but feeling much better and ready to get back into the swing of things. Like this weekend, for example...

Starting on Friday is the Greek Winter Fest at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Egg Harbor Township. The fest runs through Sunday, and just looking at the pastry menu is making me all a-tingle.

Then it gets really interesting on Saturday.

Mount Holly will have its annual January double shot: the Fire & Ice Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Winter Beer Fest at High Street Grill with sessions from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you miss the chili in Mount Holly (and it’s going to be chilly in Mount Holly), then you have the Soup-r-Bowl Chili Challenge at the Lakehurst Community Center from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are only $5 per person and free for kids under five.

For you wine lovers out there, there’s the Wine Tasting Tour and Dinner from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. that will take you to three wineries and then dinner at Joseph’s at Renault Winery. There’s also the Winter Wine Fest at The Church of the Holy Eucharist in Tabernacle from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. And finally, it’s the Alpine Winter Weekend at Bellview Winery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 per person.

What’s for dinner on Saturday? There’s the Chicken Pot Pie Dinner at the Salem FOE, the Muskrat Dinner at the Lower Alloways Creek Fire Co, and the Slow Food South Jersey Shore Winter Feast at The Merion Inn in Cape May.

And if you still missed getting chili on Saturday, despite my best efforts, you’re still in luck come Sunday. HOB Tavern in Bordentown is hosting its annual Chili Cook-Off. Registration is at 1 p.m. for competitors, and the contest begins at 2 p.m.
