Walmart Waiting on Permits for Wind Turbine Installation

An installation date has yet to be set

Walmart is still waiting on the wind turbines to be installed in its parking lot.

“We are still working on the various permits involved,” spokesman Bill Wertz said.

The company was originally waiting to install the turbines after September due to the heavy customer traffic during the summer months.

A specific date has yet to be set, Wertz said.

Once installation is under way, certain areas of the parking lot will be closed — about 150 feet of parking aisle at a time on a rotating basis.

The Zoning Board approved the project in January. Once all the permits are approved, Walmart can proceed with the installation.

OmniWind Energy Systems will be replacing 10 existing light poles with stronger poles, reinstalling the light fixtures at the current height and installing small turbines on the top of the poles.

The Zoning Board incorporated 25 conditions in its resolution including securing “any and all other necessary applications, permits or approvals” such as the Ocean County Planning Board, the NJDEP and the Lacey Township Fire and Emergency Officials.

The resolution is attached to this story as a PDF.
