Daniel Eugene “Rudy” Ruettiger is a motivational speaker and former collegiate football player for the University of Notre Dame. He is best known for his underdog story that became the inspiration for the 1993 motion picture “Rudy.”
Due to marginal grades, Ruetigger had to begin his college education at Holy Cross College where he spent two years. He applied to Notre Dame four times before he was admitted.
Although undersized at 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds, Ruettiger tried out for the Fighting Irish football team, earning a spot on the scout team.
Ruettiger did not make an appearance in a game until his last home game as a senior against Georgia Tech. He was put in as defensive end, recording a sack. Reutigger was carried off the field by his teammates.
More recently, Ruettiger agreed to pay $382,866 to resolve charges of securities fraud after he allegedly participated in a penny stock scam involving his sports drink company that generated $11 million of illicit profits, according to Forbes.
