Hundreds Shop at Patti's Prom Boutique

Over 400 girls lined up at Patti's Prom Project for their grand opening

Patti’s Prom Boutique's grand opening was nothing less than that as the seasonal store is offering $20 prom dresses to high school girls while also benefiting the American Cancer Society.

The April 9 grand opening for Patti's Prom Boutique, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, was a success as over 400 girls lined up outside an hour before the noon opening. The joy and excitement was palpable.

For a $20 donation to the Cancer Society's Relay For Life, Monmouth and Ocean county girls can walk away with a ravishing dress, many of them brand new with the tags still on. Dress and accessory donations pour in from all over, from local residents to stores such as Cache and Barefoot Bride, and many others.

Lacey Township Mayor Gary Quinn gave his blessing the morning of the grand opening, and his wife Linda volunteered at the shop from open until close.

"Gary and Linda are just such wonderful people. Linda volunteers with us every year, and Gary is always here to help out and wish us well", said founder Elizabeth Bahr, who runs the boutique with her mom Robin and the help of family and friends.

Patti's Prom Boutique used to be held as just a one-day event a few years ago, but has since grown in size and impact as the news spread of the deals and the cause it benefits.

Asides from being a haven for young girls in need of prom dresses, the boutique is also a cancer information center.

At least 40 dresses were sold on opening day, and the first two days of business have generated $1,000 for Relay for Life.

But even with the immense success of the first few days of business, there is no shortage of dresses. The Boutique still has over 2,000 dresses in stock, in all styles, sizes, and colors.

Senior Erin McGuire of Lacey Township High School found her dream dress at Patti’s Prom Boutique. "I've been to all the stores and malls and couldn’t find anything, but this dress is perfect!"

Patti’s Prom Boutique is located at 702 Route 9, Lanoka Harbor NJ 08734. The Boutique is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and will be open through June 7. Visit them on Facebook at “Patti's Prom Boutique” or call 732-600-0778.

What a wonderful cause in these difficult times. Hopefully some of the young ladies who benefited from this will pay it forward in some form or another. I had donated a few of my daughters gowns there last year along with some jewelry and hopefully someone was able to enjoy herself wearing them just as my daughter had.
