Work on Taylor Lane Traffic Light Proceeding on Schedule

Current electrical work precedes signal installation in late spring to early summer of 2012

According to a spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), pre-installation work at the intersection of Taylor Lane and Route 9 in Lacey Township is proceeding before a future traffic light is stationed there.

“As many people know, there is a plan in place to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Taylor Lane and Route 9. Currently at the site, electrical conduits are being installed underneath the roadway for the future placement of the signal,” said Timothy Greeley, press officer for the NJDOT. “That work is going on now, and will wrap up in a matter of weeks.”

Greeley went on to say that the traffic signal itself is still in the “electrical design phase”, with construction of the signal intended to begin in early spring 2012 and installation to follow at the intersection in the late spring or early summer of next year.

“We were able to have the electrical pre-installation work here done alongside the Route 9 resurfacing project,” Greeley commented, explaining that such a move will prevent the roadway from being disturbed again next year when the signal is finally installed.

The Route 9 resurfacing project includes approximately 11 miles – of which 1.5 miles are in Lacey – of Route 9’s north and southbound lanes, stretching from north of Route 72 in Stafford Township to north of Lakeside Drive in Lacey Township.

Lacey Township officials have previously stated that they requested the traffic signal at Taylor Lane and Route 9 nearly six years ago. After the NJDOT reviewed and investigated the issue, they determined that the intersection warrants a three-way traffic signal.
