Where's the Cheapest Gas?

Prices at local stations as of Friday, March 25.

The week of March 25 brings good news for drivers – well, sort of.

Gas prices in the Barnegat area seem to be at a standstill, if not slightly down from last week. However, the national average for this week went up a penny from last week to $3.55 for regular and two cents for midgrade and premium, to $3.69 and $3.82, respectively. For the daily national average, check out fuelgaugereport.aaa.com.

Ready for the good news? TheBarnegat area has an average of around $3.33 for regular, $3.51 for midgrade and $3.64 for premium – all well below the national average and seeming to stay at a standstill compared to previous weeks.

According to experts, for next week, drivers should expect only a slight rise, if any. Whether this will affect central New Jersey seems unlikely, but never say never – after all, this is gas were talking about.

What New Jersey drivers should be anticipating is a major hike in and around the upcoming Easter weekend, as happens with most holidays.

In addition to finding the cheapest gas around, it’s also important to take into account other ways to cut down on your gasoline bill. This week’s tip is to keep up on oil changes: every 3,000 miles for standard oil and between 5,000 and 7,500 for synthetic, depending on car make and model.

This will not only help you maintain the life of your engine, but it helps your gas mileage by burning fuel in a cleaner way. You may also want to get your air filter changed when the oil is being changed; this also helps fuel consumption.

Local Data

The best prices in this week’s fuel survey come from the Lanoka Harbor area, with the Rt. 9 Wawa at $3.29 for regular and the Rt. 9 Delta at $3.27 for regular. The best local deals are coming from the Lacey Road Shell and Wawa, both at $3.33 for a gallon of regular.

If you’re driving through the Barnegat/Waretown area you may want to visit Riggins in Barnegat at $3.29 per gallon of regular and the West Bay Avenue Wawa at $3.31 for a gallon of regular.

If you can, avoid the Garden State Parkway Service Station (Lukoil) which is at $3.41 per gallon of regular. It seems getting gas in town is a good investment this week.
