What Would You Improve in Lacey in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for Lacey what would it be?

More than 45 percent of Americans make a resolution every year, according to statisticbrain.com. Some people vow to live a healthier lifestyle, others promise to spend more time with family, and many say they will try to save money.

As millions of Americans make resolutions to improve their lives, what could we do right here in Lacey to make it an even better place to live?

Is there a new business you'd like to see in town? What about new programs at Lacey schools? Are there any specific issues you'd like to see township officials or police address?

What is on your Lacey wish list? What is one thing you would improve in 2013?

Tell us in the comment section below or blog about why you love living here!

Clean up the drug problem in Lacey. Everytime someone is arrested it seems heroin is involved.

Have our police department follow the Attorney General guidelines for supervision, staffing and training. Perhaps then they could have an impact on the drug problems in town as well as burglaries and theft. I have lived in Lacey for over 20 years and just recently felt the needed to install an alarm system in my home. It is disgraceful that the Township Committee has ignored the needs of policing our town adequately.

How about the school board finding funds to pay long term employees a decent salary and benefits instead of getting away with the term "long term sub" for minimum wage and no benefits, not even sick days or paid holidays. They are in school every day, all day, all school year. Does technology take care of your special needs children? I don't think so.

A nine hole disc golf course at Bamber Park and a recreation program for me to teach disc golf to the great people of Lacey for FREE.

Clean up Deerhead Lake. Do something that works about getting rid of the geese and stop runoff from the roads into the lake. Deerhead Lake was closed more than it was open last year and this is after spending all the money to redo the main beach. Sooner or later the pollution will afect Lake Barnegat and we will have no lakes to enjoy in the Pines!

My wish is that the Township Committee STOPS their continued pursuit and spending on the road on the railroad right-of-way and sell the property to Trust for Public Lands so the County can continue to develop the continuity of the Barnegat Branch Trail. Especially since the reality of Superstorm Sandy, there are so many Lacey residents and areas of town that need financial help.

Have nj residentsfree on all beaches and lakes in their area and have out of staters pay and clean up the drugs.

proud one little problem no permit and no money it went to the play to pay firm and the township attorney Dontcha just hate those pesky Dep and Dot and zoning laws

we do need a properly staffed police department. i think now more than ever. the township officials seem to be bringing this town down and inviting more lowlifes in. they have made this town appealing for lowlifes. i have to pay property taxes whether we hire more police officers or continue to have a dwindling police department, so i vote for staffing the police department and having a chief running the department who actually knows the job and what needs to be done. i don't want a chief in this town who plays politics and spends all of his time at county and state political functions. the people of this town need to wake up before it is too late!

grace December 30, 2012 at 05:17 PM
like your suggestions ron! can i add bring in more ratables maybe a saladworks chipoltle grill...build the road...close the nuclear plant
grace December 30, 2012 at 05:18 PM
build it and they will come
Wilson B Goode December 30, 2012 at 07:20 PM
Jenny will the taxes paid by salad works replace those paid for by the Nuclear plant? Lol Let's all get hybrid cars so we can rely more on coal and nuclear for the electricity we need to power them. Let's give all muni employees taxpayer funded pay raises Let's make all employees take Obamacare since it is so good for all AND cheaper aint it
grace December 30, 2012 at 08:05 PM
ok wilson, no a stupid saladworks wont pay our taxes if the plant closes...but my thought is that its closing anyway might as well do it before another sandy hits and we are all dead..and at that point taxes wont matter...ive lived in the are my entire life, have never liked the plant and ignorant as it is..we always called the fish caught near it atomic bass...and it gave forked river a lower class standing... not that i was from a wealthy background or from some fancy town because i wasnt..just saying and i know it was ignorant to think that now...but i still want it closed
grace December 30, 2012 at 08:08 PM
also i am not for obamacare at all...
Wilson B Goode December 30, 2012 at 08:09 PM
Fair enough. How much taxes will we lose and where will the money and electricity come from? Wind or solar? How will we pay for public pensions and free healthcare with lower tax revenues?
grace December 30, 2012 at 08:13 PM
pretty darn windy today that might be a good start
Wilson B Goode December 30, 2012 at 08:33 PM
I just luv the hum sound the ones in ac make. They are sure pretty sights too. Seriously how much would we lose in tax revs if plant closed?
proud December 30, 2012 at 08:55 PM
Disband the Sunrise Beach Club that keeps their Beach like a rat hole. One thousand families pay annually for a fraction of the neighborhood to use a boat ramp. It's a shame to see such a jewel in constant and dangerous disrepair.

Stop the curbside delivery of these freebie newspapers like the mailbag and Lacey Barnegat Times that are nothing but a litter problem. We should pass an ordinance that they have to deliver the paper properly, not just throw it by the mailbox so it blows all over the street. It's disgusting. They are all over our town. Vacant lots, sewers, some driveways have about 6 of them just laying there, great for thieves to see if no one is home. This is not helping our environment. Don't be so cheap and deliver by mail like you used to. Maybe then you'll get advertisers and the paper would be worth reading again.

compulsory history classes for all adults. Most of them seemed to miss the part about NJ being part of the union during the civil war, not the confederacy.
Christina December 31, 2012 at 06:56 AM
I would like to see MUCH better security in our schools! this must be addressed! Happy & Healthy New Year to everyone :)
Susan January 01, 2013 at 12:49 AM
Would like to see the sunrise extension to take the pressure off of traffic after mass at St Pius Church. Forget spending money on the road. Build the extension and be done! Start focusing on keeping this town beautiful instead of its continued decay of drugs and crime.
