PHOTOS: Dedication of Popcorn Park's New Turtle Habitat

New turtle habitat a reminder to motorists to move over for emergency services

More than 100 people came out to Popcorn Park Zoo on Saturday, June 2 to see the box turtles released into their

"We had a great day," said Lacey resident Donna Setaro, mother of fallen Trooper Marc Castellano and advocate for the State's Move-Over Law, which requires motorists to move over and slow down for emergency vehicles with flashing lights.

Castellano died of injuries he sustained when he was struck by a vehicle while searching for a suspect in 2010. Setaro has since made it her mission to promote the State’s Move-Over Law.

Setaro partnered with Popcorn Park Zoo to develop a new turtle habitat that would feature the Move-Over Law. The habitat was unveiled and dedicated in Castellano's honor on Saturday.

An information booth on the Move-Over Law was set up and pencils were handed out.

State troopers from Troop C and made a $1,200 donation which put the total donations for the project over $5,000, Setaro said.

"This was a great project and we got support from the Builders Club at Lacey Middle School and the Emergency Services Club at Lacey High School," Setaro said. "I hope that the turtle habitat will be enjoyed by all the park visitors and be a reminder to those people driving the importance of moving over for emergency workers."
