Oct. 28: Hazardous Materials, Community Hall Gathering, Psychic Night

Events in and around Lacey Township

 1. A free program to turn in hazardous household waste and materials will be given at 11 a.m. today at 1360 Route 70 in Whiting. Call 732-367-0802 to pre-register for Brick & Manchester sites.  Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Only Ocean County residential households and farmers are eligible for this free program.  A driver's license or tax bill will be adequate proof of residence.

Acceptable Materials: paints/thinners/boat paint, solvents, pool chemicals, pesticides and herbicides, aerosol cans, auto products, toilet and drain cleaners, silver polishes, oven cleaners, photographic chemicals, rug and upholstery cleaners, polishes and bleaches, waste oil and used gasoline.  All, except oil and gasoline, must be in original containers.  Maximum volume per household is limited to 200 pounds of dry materials and 20 gallons of liquid.  No containers larger than 5 gallons.

Unacceptable Materials: radioactive materials, dioxins, infectious waste ("Red Bag" wastes), explosives, unknown or unidentified materials.  No construction waste or asbestos.

   2. For only $6, come out to the Community Hall on the corner of Lacey Road and Route 9 at 11:30 a.m. today, and enjoy food, music, fun and games at the monthly themed gathering in Forked River. This event is offered for Lacey residents only. Call Marie at 609-693-6121 or Heather at 609-693-8223 for more information.

   3. The Captain’s Inn in Lacey, along with the Lacey Food Bank Kids Committee, will hold a night of Psychic Entertainment tonight from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Reserve your time slot now by calling the Lacey Food Bank at 609-242-2848, and leave a message for Laura or email LFBKids@msn.com. Tickets are $30 per person and include a 15-minute reading, light refreshments, coffee/tea and dessert. Cash bar available.

   4. Blue Moon Books, located at 603 Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor, will host their Game Night at 7 p.m. Unwind after the work week with a friendly game of Scrabble, Monopoly, cards, backgammon, are offered or bring your favorite game and teach the rest of those in attendance. Light refreshments are offered. Call 609-242-5623 for more information.

5. At 7:30 p.m., Ocean County College will host a theatrical production, Landford Wilson’s “Book Of Days”. The play is the story of a small, conservative town in Missouri that is plunged into chaos when the owner of the local cheese factory is killed under suspicious circumstances. The factory's bookkeeper investigates his death, and discovers more secrets in the process. Tickets are $22 for adults, and $20 for seniors. Call 732-255-0500 for more information.
