REMINDER: Service Being Planned for Princess the Camel On Super Bowl Sunday

What better day than Super Bowl Sunday to pay tribute to New Jersey most well-known big game prognosticator?

Princess, a 27-year-old camel who called the Popcorn Park Zoo home for nearly the past decade, died Jan. 14. Princess was known not only for her friendly demeanor at the park – as well as her love of graham crackers – but also for a stunningly accurate knack for picking football winners.

This year, she will be memorialized in Lacey on Super Bowl Sunday.

"The weeks leading up to the Super Bowl were always a very exciting time at Popcorn Park because of our beautiful camel, Princess," said John Bergmann, Popcorn Park Director, in an e-mail. "Arrangements have been made to memorialize and pay tribute to our beloved Princess, and there is no other day more fitting for this memorial to take place than on Super Bowl Sunday."

Over the years Princess went 8-1 in selecting the Super Bowl victor, including her correct prognostication of last year's matchup. She also picked NFL playoff games.

The memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 2 at Layton's Home for Funerals, 250 West Lacey Road, Forked River.

Layton's will be open at 10 a.m. and a service with tributes and a video presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the zoo is asking that donations be made to a special fund that was set up in memory of Princess.  Donations to the Princess Fund can be made to:
