Locals Sell Their Treasures to Benefit the Lacey Food Bank

Next up for the food bank is a mixer, a soccer tournament, and Psychic Night

From slightly used clothing to antique typewriters, the Lacey Food Bank held a yard sale to benefit those locals in need on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The fourth annual yard sale featured about 15 tables set up with local vendors and was held for the first time at Community Hall, Harold W. Peters, an organizer of the yard sale said.

“We have nine or ten vendors on one side, who rented a table for a few dollars and everything on the side by the building are Food Bank Volunteers; everything they sell gets donated to the Food Bank,” said Peters.

“Today we have 15 volunteers,” said Peters. “We have 90 total in the Food Bank.”

The Lacey Food Bank helps to support 127 families with about 424 people benefitting from the donations. “A majority of those people are kids,” said Peters.

Non-perishable food donations were welcomed at the event with a donation box also setup at the Shoprite down the street for any other food donations.

“Must have been a damn good yard sale! I logged 8068 steps or 2.67 miles in the parking lot alone. Thanks to everybody who came out...to help, to buy, to sell or to drop a donation in our jar. We couldn't do it without you,” Laura Caroccia said on the food bank’s Facebook page.

Up next for the food bank is an adult soccer tournament fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. The tournament, which will be held at Hebrew Park, will go towards the food bank’s kids Christmas party.

The Lacey Soccer Club will be collecting new, unwrapped toys, gifts and clothing for food bank children.

A Psychic Night is also scheduled at The Captains Inn for the end of October.
