Lacey's Prognosticating Camel, 'Princess,' Dies

27-year-old camel was best known for making football picks, but also loved a good graham cracker

Princess the camel, the Popcorn Park Zoo animal that was known for making stunningly accurate football picks, has died at age 27.

Zoo officials said Princess died peacefully on Tuesday. Princess "crossed the rainbow bridge and rejoined her sister Baby in a place where she can once again walk and live without the pain and discomfort brought on by old age," the zoo said in a statement.

Princess "never met a graham cracker she didn’t like," but was euthanized after age took its toll and rendered her unable to live without pain.

The zoo is planning a memorial for the camel, the date and time for which has not yet been announced.

Princess died, ironically, just weeks short of her highest profile time of the year, when she would make NFL playoff and Super Bowl picks. Over the years Princess went 8-1 in selecting the big game's victor, including her correct prognostication of last year's matchup.

Princess was 27 years old and arrived at Popcorn Park a decade ago after her owner passed away and a caretaker retired to another state. The Associated Humane Societies brought her to Popcorn Park, which remained her home for the rest of her life.
