Lacey's 5K Is On Rain Or Shine

The Municipal Alliance still expects approximately 300 people to participate in this year's 5K

A forecasted hurricane is not deterring Lacey. The township’s 5K is on rain or shine.

Despite the forecasted weather for the upcoming weekend, the Lacey Township Municipal Alliance is not canceling the their annual 5K.

“It should work out really well because it’s not supposed to hit until later on. And the runners won’t mind a little rain because of the heat. As long as there is no thunder and lightening, I don’t anticipate any problems,” Municipal Alliance Coordinator Heather Scanlon said.

The national weather service is currently forecasting showers and a possible thunderstorm with a 70 percent chance of precipitation. Tropical storm conditions are not predicted until Saturday night.

“As long as the forecast stays the way it is, I don’t think we’ll have any major impact,” Scanlon said.

One hundred and forty people have pre-registered for the race but the Municipal Alliance is expecting about 300 to show up for the 5K, One-Mile Fun Run/Walk and Kiddie Dash at Gille Park.

Scanlon described the route as a half loop within the park with a little dog leg on the south side of the park towards the recreation building and another dog leg going up to the Mill Pond School, which then turns around along the back of the school and heads back to the park.

Registration will start at 7 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Bob Court Lane entrance to Gille Park, near the roller hockey and skateboard facility.
