Island Beach State Park Manager Not Worried About Tropical Storm Andrea

No preparations needed for coming storm

No big deal.

That's Island Beach State Park Area Manager Ray Bukowski's take on Tropical Storm Andrea now heading up the coast.

"I'm not anticipating anything," Bukowski said. "I think we're in good shape. The marine forecast is southwest winds from 10 to 15 miles per hour. It was worse than that last week. It's a southeast wind."

Island Beach was inundated by Superstorm Sandy last Oct. 29. The park was closed until a few sections opened up in late January. Now most of the park is open.

But Andrea is no Sandy, Bukowski said.

"My main concern right now is for the contractors to finish the boardwalk at Ocean Bathing Beach 1," he said. "They are banging nails as fast as possible. They will be working until 10 p.m. tonight."

Berkeley Township Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said he will meet this afternoon with township emergency management officials about the storm.
