Fundraiser For Injured Firefighter Dan Inglis Sr. Friday

Father of fallen police officer Daniel Inglis Jr. injured while on "truck duty" at Lanoka Harbor firehouse

by Patricia A. Miller

That Sunday was pretty routine for Daniel Inglis Sr. He never missed his "truck duty" at the Lanoka Harbor Fire Company firehouse.

But something went wrong. Very wrong. Inglis - a captain in the department - was alone in the truck bay when he was injured. No one knows what happened. Several other fire company members were upstairs, but didn't realize he had been hurt, Mayor Gary Quinn said.

Quinn asked residents to help the Inglis family Friday by going to the Longshot Sports Bar and Restaurant in Waretown, either for a meal or to make a donation. The restaurant is donating 10 percent of the day's proceeds to the Inglis family.

Daniel Inglis suffered head injuries in the accident and is recuperating at John F. Kennedy Medical Center. He has "good days and bad days," Quinn said.

His police officer son Daniel Jr. died in January 2013 of injuries he suffered in a car crash in 2011.
