Fund Established to Assist Lacey Families Affected by Sandy

Applications can be picked up at the police department, the Lacey Township Clerk's Office, the Lacey Library and the Lacey United Methodist Church

The Lacey United Methodist Church Sandy Relief Fund has been established to assist families living in Lacey Township who continue to struggle after the effects of superstorm Sandy.

"It was developed by people in the community who wanted to help their neighbors and asked if the church would be the channel to which it was distributed," Linda Applegate, Pastor of the Lacey United Methodist Church said.

Lacey Township residents can apply to receive various forms of assitance for homeowners or renters. Distribution of funds will also be made based on who has or has not received monetary assistance yet, she said.

"We just really want to help those who are really in need of help since they can't find it anywhere else," she said.

With the fund, there is no overhead cost, Applegate said.

"In the Methodist church, our missions are set up that 100 percent of what someone gives, goes to the mission," she said.

Only Lacey residents qualify for the assistance, she said.

Donations can be sent to the Lacey United Methodist Church. Checks should be made payable to LUMC with the memo, "Sandy Relief Fund."

Applications are available for pick up from the Lacey Township Police Department, the Lacey Township Clerk’s Office, the Lacey Branch of the Ocean County Library or the Lacey United Methodist Church Office and web-page: www.gbgm-umc.org/laceyumc. The application is also attached to his story as a PDF.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, Jan. 11.
