Family Movie Night to Feature Big Miracle Thursday

Tickets are available for $5 per person and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lacey Chamber Scholarship Fund for high school students

On Thursday, Aug. 23, the Lacey Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Movie Night at Murray Grove in Lanoka Harbor.

Big Miracle, starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski, will be showing on a big screen outside from 8:30 to 11 p.m.

The original president of the Chamber brought on the idea several years ago, Chamber Secretary Ruth Feeney said. At that time, the Chamber was much smaller.

“In 2012, with new officers, we wanted to bring the idea to fruition,” Feeney said. “We thought it was a really good idea for Lacey Township."

Big Miracle is centered in a small town in Alaska where a team of individuals band together to save a family of gray whales that are trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle.

“It’s a clean movie,” said Feeney, adding that members of the Chamber previewed the movie to ensure it was family-friendly. “It’s a good movie for all sorts of ages.”

Tickets are available for $5 per person at PNC Bank located at 702 Lacey Road and ConvexSERV Technology Solutions, LLC located at 118 North Main Street. Children under two years old are free. Tickets will also be available at the event.

Popcorn, refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase, Feeney said. The movie will be showing on a 21-foot flat screen television. Feeney advises those attending to bring folding chairs or blankets to sit on.

Nukem Pest Management treated the field for free so the area will be bug free, Feeney said.

“This is the new Lacey Chamber and we really want to bring more opportunities in the township not just for ourselves but to bring people together,” Feeney said. “There’s not always stuff to do, especially during the week. It’s going to be really fun.”

Exelon Corporation, owner and operator of Oyster Creek Generating Station, sponsored the event for $1,500.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Lacey Chamber Scholarship Fund for Lacey Township High School students who participate in Future Business Leaders of America.

Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center is located at 431 North Main Street in Lanoka Harbor.
