Barnegat Light: Home to 'Old Barney'

Beach badge prices, lifeguard hours

A visit to Barnegat Light can offer the relaxation of a classic day at the beach with maybe a pinch of history when the sunbathing is done.

Seasonal beach badges are currently available for $35. Senior citizens, ages 65 and older, can purchase a seasonal pass for $8. Weekly badges also are available at a rate of $20 — with a week being defined as running from Saturday to Friday.

The daily rate is $5 per person. Children under 12 are admitted for free.
There is also a $1 per badge charge for any badges that are purchased on the beach. Badges are currently on sale at Borough Hall, located at 10 East 7th Street. The municipal building is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Beach badges can also be purchased at a booth on West 11th Street. Currently the booth is open sporadically on the weekends but come June 16, hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For more information about beach badges call Borough Hall at 609-494-9196.

Lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week starting June 16.

There are no restrooms at the beaches. The closest public restroom is at the boat ramp on West 10th Street. There also are no showers or changing facilities. Public restrooms can also be found at Barnegat Lighthouse State Park.

Parking is free but must be found along the public streets. There are no dogs allowed on the beach from April 15 to October 1.

Don't forget to check out Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, which is home to “Old Barney”—a 172-foot lighthouse that dates to 1859.

The lighthouse is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (weather permitting) from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There is a $3 fee per person. Children ages 6 to 11 are $1; children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information call the park office at 609-494-2016.
