Lacey Township has 24 new residents today after Popcorn Park picked up a group of chihuahuas from Robert J. Miller Airpark in Berkeley Township.

The dogs were transported from Gates, N.C., by Pilot-N-Paws, an organization that transfers rescue animals to shelters and foster homes.

A North Carolina “animal lover” and her husband were caring for 32 chihuahuas when the wife unexpectedly passed away, leaving her husband to care for these dogs all alone, Renee Szorosy of Popcorn Park said. While some were already adopted, Popcorn Park will be seeking forever homes for the 24 remaining dogs.

The dogs range in ages and each will be altered before leaving Popcorn Park, she said. The adoption fee includes a collar, tag, leash, all vaccinations, a 10-day medical guarantee and microchip.

“What better time than now for the rescue of these dogs,” Szorosy said. “Popcorn Park is celebrating October as Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month.”

The shelter is open seven days a week; from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Popcorn Park is located at Humane Way off of Lacey Road in Forked River. For more information, call the Society at 609-693-100 or email njhumane@aol.com.

Now this plays into my comment about the towns banning dog sales. THIS is where you should find your next dog. Now get over there and pick out your new pet. That is an order!!!

I adopted the last pup of the bunch, Joey last month. he is so sweet and fits right in with my cats :-) he is still very scared, especially going outside and even more afraid at night. maybe these pups were never allowed to go outside before. would love to know more about their past living conditions.
