our home was broken into 2 years ago as well as 8 or 9 others. they got the guy who is in jail now but the feeling of being violated will never go away. We too moved here to get away from North Jersey but unfortunately, this is happening all over no matter where you live.

Take a four point photo of each room. This will refresh your memory as to placement of property. The photos will prove to the insurance company that you did have the stolen item. The authorities would have something to show the pawn shop owners. Log all serial numbers of PC's, TV's, Cameras, Stereo's etc., along with receipts and keep them in a safe place. * You will have what the police and the insurance company will need in order to help you with your loss.

My husband and I were planning to buy a house in Lanoka Harbor. We also live in North Jersey and are looking for a better place to raise our children. However, now I keep reading so much about drug abuse and burglaries in Lacey. Is drug abuse really that big of a problem there? Does anyone have other suggestion of great affordable places with good schools to raise children? We were so set on Lanoka Harbor, and now I'm so nervous that it is not as great as we thought.

Lacey is a great place, unfortunately this drug abuse and burglaries all over no matter where you go LZ. They have a great school system here, this is why we moved here. Just make sure you get a house alarm.

@ LZ. May I suggest Bayville, NJ. The schools are PRO-ACTIVE with police in the school to prevent problems. The police answer calls for help. They listen to the citizen and quickly solve the problem. The neighbors help each other when trouble comes to any one family. The Police Chief CARES about her community.

You are right. Its not so nice. People from the north moved here and brought the crime and drugs with them. Save yourself the disappointment .

If you think this group that is doing these robberies is a sign that the whole area is bad well then you will be turned away at exit 74.

Google the directions to Nirvana and load them in your GPS.

@ Miche, I thought the same thing, but then I thought about it. Not too sure these dopeheads are that dumb to try and cash in on the stuff they stole in the same town. I believe you have to give your license when you sell stuff there. This whole thing has be sick. I too moved here from North Jersey and didn't think about any of this crime beforehand. My husband and I have small children and I second guess raising them in this town due to the elevated crime and drug problems. Trust me, I don't live under a rock, I do know this happens everywhere, but I'm just not feeling too comfortable living in Lacey anymore. It's impossible to sell our home at this point with the market the way it is. The value of it has gone down tremendously and we would never make a dime on it to buy something elsewhere. We're stuck and I can only pray that I continue raising them the right way and they will always make good decisions. The drug problems around town scare me the most. And these kids are so young!!!! So scary!

@ Forked River Mom-Love your children and teach them right from wrong. Trust that you will do your best as a parent. Know the company they keep. Let the children and their friends come to YOUR home vs. your children at a home which may or may NOT have a TRUSTED adult in charge. Take your children for random drug testing by your family doctor. These days, the age of the children in danger of being hooked on drugs and SHOULD BE TESTED --- GRADE SCHOOL CHILDREN. Have them tested, often. Your doctor WILL tell you if your child is CLEAN or IN TROUBLE. Parents still have the right to ACT as PARENTS. I do believe in praying over my children.

When I read these types of stores, I often wonder why the local PD does not contact all of the "fast cash" stores and let them know what they are on the lookout for...if these businesses do not comply, fine them! Perhaps these "fast cash" stores should be required to keep a accurate record of what they take in and MUST require proof when handling our $$'s?

@ James Marlowe. Sound advice. Call the (3) top home security companies and ask them for the cost of installing the unit and then the monthly cost to maintain the service. Clear ALL plant life that blocks your neighbor's view of your windows and doors. Plants, bushes and trees can be hiding places for criminals. Exchange phone numbers with your neighbors. They can alert you without putting themselves in danger. A dog WILL let you know if he/she heard a sound and the direction the sound came from. Animal shelters will help you rescue a dog which may in turn rescue you. Choose to be pro-active vs. living in fear.

Everyone can blame themselves for this! You guys elected these township officials in who keeps denying chief nally the ability to hire more police officers. We have less employed cops in this town then we did 30 years ago and look at the population from then to now and you will see where the problem is.

You got that right! My husband is a cop (not in Lacey) and he says it's the same story everywhere. Some departments don't even send a cop to a minor car accident anymore or to nuisance complaints such as dogs barking. Some towns don't even go to house alarms because so many of them are false. There simply is not enough manpower. The solution is simple; if you want more protection, hire more people. Of course that will raise taxes, but nothing in life is free.

The problem lies with these people's parents. They are not teaching their children how to be ethical and moral. You can't blame Bush, Obama, or the pawn shops for individual behavior. These kids are now taught that they are entitled to what they want, when they want it. That lies in their parents hands.

YES YES YES how right you ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If the parents would start teaching these kids that they cant have everything they want and cant take it from where ever or who ever they want it from maybe this world would be a better place to live.. It does lie in the hands of the parents but try telling them that... Their just as bad as the kids they had and will only teach the kids that if you want it .. then... TAKE IT.. its disgusting .. and makes me sick to see how some of these parents are.. Thank God you are still one good parent left..

From what I read, the way the township thinks it should combat this drug epidemic is by putting a prescription drop box in the lobby of the municipal building. Personally this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The way you combat drugs and crime is proactive policing. Dare, locker sweeps and traffic stops. They need to bring K-9s from the Sherrif's department and sweep lockers. They need to profiling traffic stops and not racial profiling, age profiling. If you see a car of kids driving in the same area for a period of time, they are looking for something. Drug counseling needs to be part of guidance counseling in the schools. And worthless parents need to be locked up after their children have multiple
offenses.

Prescription drug addiction is on the same level as heroin. Counseling and recovery are the keys to success, not county time and fines.

Idk who you guys associate with but my family, friends and I have some how "miraculously" avoided drug addiction or having our homes broken into. Your so scared for your kids? Well raise them to not be scumbags or hang around scum and they will be just fine. Lacey is a fine town to raise a healthy, honorable family.

Not for nothing but everyone is missing the point.. My house was robbed, my things won't get returned... Lacey police officers go to pawn shops twice a week, pawn shops are required to hold these items for 5 days before they can release them for sale. The cops also go to other pawn shops in different towns. It's not the cops fault this town is full of dirtbags, they are all drug addicts looking for a high, they have no shame walking into someone's home and take the things they work so hard for. Unfortunately Lacey has turned into a high drug addict high crime town, nothing like it used to be its a shame.

every generation has had that one drug that drove people to kill and rob. in the 60s and 70s it was powder heroin. the 80's brought crack and it destroyed entire neighborhoods. now it's the oxycontin pills known as hill billy heroin and unlike crack and heroin which has to be smuggled into neighborhood these pills are n unlimited and legal source which is the drug companies. any huge legally run mega million dollar companies can manipulate the system and doctors who are either to easy to hand them out or dealing in illegal prescriptions.one thing is for sure unless the laws get much tighter on the sources its going to get a lot worse.look at that photo of the 23 yr old who robbed the bank next to applebees. what do you think he was robbing it for? for oxycontin the same pills that rush limbaugh was sending his maid to go cop. my suggestion is to put motion detectors around your homes and if you dont want to wire it buy the solar powered ones.

To SweetVell.. believe me I can take care of myself but it is upsetting to be reading that there are breakins all the time now in Lacey.. and if it keeps up who knows it could become the next Newark or Camden.. just look around you and see how houses are kept by a certain group of people with a latin accent.. they live like pigs.. doors wide open junk all over the outside of the house and the Code Enforcer does NOTHING about it.. just drive d own Beach Blvd and look at the first 30 houses or so and see the crap and junk that are all around them.. Its disgusting to say the least.. but does the code enforcer do anything about it.. NOPE.. It should be that homes should be kept free of junk and garbage so to keep the neighborhoods nice.. but they dont do anything at all.. these people are dirty and keep the homes disgusting inside and out.. Ride by when their doors are open and see what it looks like.. A ghetto .. plain and simple.. and for the record Soap and Water doesn*t alot .. just go to the dollar store and by some of their cleaning products..The economy is bad but not bad enough for people to steal from others and make there homes disgusting.Enough excuses..

Linny , I think you might need to take some self defense classes, god forbid you ever need to protect yourself, then you somewhat can, since you say your scared all the time. It's a shame that people's houses are being broken into and their things taken but some people are making it seem like we live in Camden or Newark. Atleast these crimes are non-violent crimes and people aren't getting hurt. It's a shame people's things are bring taken but it could be much worse. No matter what town you go to you'll find the same thing happening because the economy is in the shitter

Since my first post, I have spoken with many other reliable sources regarding the issues in Lacey, so you can keep your advice. You're are right however! If you still want to move here, I would look at the Lanoka Harbor section west of Rt 9. That's where I live. It's the nicer part of town and closer to the parks and schools, too. I'm not saying we don't and couldn't have crime, it just doesn't seem to be as bad as the Forked River section. I think the school system was OK (my kids are 19 and 17), nothing like my neice and nephews schools in Manalapan or Mt. Olive or where I'm from, Washington Twp in Gloucester Co. BUT, we just got a new superintendent and a new principal at the high school, both of whom seem very good. A lot of positive changes are already being made to the curriculum and schools in general. All classes will be getting whiteboards (yeah, we're way behind the times), more online textbooks, etc. It's a nice town as far as it's not too big and crowded, we have nice parks and lakes, convenient stores with Toms River and Manahawkin not too far away for what we don't have, and most of the people are very nice. All of the neighbors on my street know each other and look out for each other. Hey- we'll be selling our house in Feb if you're interested, LOL!!

I don't know the exact amount of salary a Lacey Cop makes. I am guessing it has to be 75,000/yr. I do know my property tax has become unffordable just trying to pay them for their service. I have to believe they are not making an effort. Because if they really are trying and they cant stop a bunch of stupid kids of committing robberies in daylight hours , then they really are very bad at their jobs and we need to change.

I am sure that whoever and your family that is in the police force is a very good cop Jenny but the rest of their coworkers seem to be there just to collect a paycheck.
