I feel sorry for all the families who had there homes invaded. With this amount of burglaries in such a short period of time, someone had to see something. Especially if it occured during the daytime. A vehicle out of place, people walking around? It seems to be in one neighborhood. No forced entry in most of these homes? How did they get in?

This goes to show you the economy IS NOT doing as well as those bozos down in D.C. lead you to believe. Make note of all your serial numbered items, hide cash & jewelry in unlikely places . . . . and know who the friends of your kids are. Most unwanted entries are from people that know your daily routines. That nice 'kid' down the street could be the one making entry . . . .

This really scares me! Notice most of these break ins are when most people are at work? It's obvious these losers who are breaking in do not have jobs and have to relate to stealing rather then getting a job like the rest of us. McDonalds is always hiring, but I'm sure that's below these clowns! Can't stress enough to lock your cars and doors in your house. If you have a house alarm, USE IT! Even if you're going out for a walk. You never know when these idiots are roaming around.

@ stretch113...I couldn't agree more!!! Don't ever trust anyone. It's sad to say and horrible to live that way, but nowadays, it's a scary world we live in. Keep your valuables locked away, even if you're at home. It's not worth it. A good friend of mine posted on facebook that she was leaving for vacation. At some point during her trip, her house was broken into and everything valuable she owned was stolen. They suspect it was someone she was friends with and learned of it on facebook. Word to the wise...never announce on any social network when you will be on vacation, out of town, or gone for the day. It gives too much info away and you never know who could be "stalking". Again, sad way to live, but it is what it is.

I'm sorry, but in this day & age, you MUST lock your home AND your cars AT ALL TIMES. Sad, I know, but true! Those that say no forced entry mean a door was left unlocked or they entered through an open window without having to cause any damage.

I think we are all overlooking the obvious here. I made this comment months ago but I will say it again... This was to be expected when the town approves a pawn shop to set up shop. All of these items are not traceable. Do the math. You think it is bad now, wait until that place opens up. I set partial blame on the town for allowing this to become a truly "WT" attraction.

BTW, I am also a victim, so I am not being unsympathetic at all. My house in Lanoka was burglarized and my new house in Forked had an attempted break in. I have alarms to deter but they don't prevent. One more thanks to NJ for having such strict gun ownership laws. The criminals know that most home owners won't have a gun to protect due to our "wonderful" state laws.

I couldn't agree more!Down in Fla you can get a concealed lic for a gun in your car and a 3 step training course to get the weapon ,unlock the weapon, and then fire the weapon in your car! They have the lowest car jacking rate in the U.S..The thieves are detered because they don't know if you have a gun or not!

I agree Jason! How many pawn shops do we need in town?! It makes the town look trashy, brings the wrong type of people in, and motivates the wrong type of actions. Lacey, somehow, needs a way to regulate what type of business can be established and where (stop building new buildings and use some abandoned ones)

its sad when you cant even leave your house. with doors locked but windows open on a nice day.because some idiot seems entitled to your stuff. i dont have central air. so leaving air on is not an option. there should be no need to lock your house down like fort knox everytime you step out of your house. besides you can lock up and there still going break in. i had my car broken into in my driveway. the doors where locked and there was nothing in there to take not even spare change. i then had to to pay close to $300 to get my drivers side window replaced. it s just crazy. i grew up poor. and i NEVER thought, while walking down the street, hey look at that house!!! they may have something in there i WANT!! let me just check their door and go take what they have.

Jason that pawn shop is already open, the new one is a larger store. A lot of stuff IS traceable, thats why you should write down serial numbers, or take pictures of expensive jewelry. A person who sells anything in a pawnshop has to show ID. I located several pieces of stolen jewelry already in several pawnshops, including one in Bayville on Rt 9. You can lock your cars and doors to help prevent this from happening, but sometimes its your own family members or their friends who are stealing from you. You have to be real careful who you let into your home, I don't trust anyone anymore.

BTW I lost some very special pieces of jewelry that broke my heart. I learned that they only hold gold for 2 weeks and then send it out to be melted down. I went on my own mission and went to every place I could think of that bought gold, in Bayville, Toms River, Lacey, Waretown, Barnegat, Manahawkin and Tuckerton. I did locate a few peices, but the ones I really wanted back were not to be found.

I to was in the one on Lacey road looking for my belongings that were stolen and a bunch ok kids (like late teens early tweenties )the came in one with a baggie full of rings and gold chains the guy behind the counter took it weighted it and handed over the cash no questions askedno paperwork signed nothing when i asked about it he told me to mined my own business if i wanted to continue to look for my goods as he put it

Denis, Jim, and Bill:
Lets help them help us. Lock your cars, your homes, leave a light on. Etch your valuables, record serial numbers on bikes, electronics, or other valuables. Keep an eye on your neighbors home. Call 911 if anything looks suspicious.

I think these crimes definitely have a relevance to the Lacey Police Department, but maybe not how some of you might think. First of all, The town has grown significantly over the past 10 - 15 years, yet our police department has stayed the same number of officers as they've had 10 - 15 years ago. With crime increasing, it's difficult for them to handle the volume of calls they are receiving. In addition, I don't think the Chief has invested in their training and development, maybe not because of his own doing, but possibly because of the budget issues all towns are experiencing. That being said, he's developed a strategy that takes care of his immediate reports (not sure if maybe we have too many of them, but begs to ask the question for a department of our size). So when we have a major crime occur in town when it requires quick thinking and smart reaction, these guys haven't been trained on how to deal with those types of situations and someone will get hurt. I hope that it isn't one of our officers. He should consider the morale of the LTPD.

Last, but not least, our police cannot stop every burglary or be everywhere. But they should be patrolling the areas of town that are known to have drug deals going down regularly and that are having these break-ins. They should be keeping an eye on those people that have a reputation of being trouble. This I think should be a strategy considered by our Chief.

For most of the Lacey PD, good job and thanks for all you do.

One more observation....(sorry) If I were the Chief I would be fighting tooth and nail to get additional police officers and training for them despite the budget to make sure the Council understands. I don't think I've seen this mentioned in the budget discussions we have every year. Don't be aggressive in asking and they will continue to assume you don't need more.

I have absolutely no trust in my neighbors, they have proven to be underhanded, vindictive as well as agitators and disrespectful too my family and even the police. I have to lock down just to leave for 15 minutes.

Maybe the police could stake out as undercover employees at the pawn shop after such high amounts of local criminal events in a short period of time. This would only be viable if it is after such a rash of local burglaries.

To the dirtbags of lacey: find a job, get training, do something you'll feel good about! People are hard working, you have no right to rob us! Get a life!

Not for nothing but people are writing things on here and they are getting deleted. I did not write anything wrong. I wrote a name, but it was my own personal name, i am not accusing anyone of doing anything. Just stating facts. And now my comments are deleted. My house was broken into, It wasnt the first of the robberies, it was actually the 3rd one, I feel like if people were to be notified that this was going on, all within a 15 block radius we would have been more cautious. If their is so many robberies maybe just maybe they could be out patrolling a little bit better. I have lived in this house for 12 years, and have seen a cop drive down the road MAYBE 4 times. Not saying these cops dont have bigger crimes to fight off, but lacey is obviously getting to be a very bad town, there is a lot of people involved with drugs, why is it so hard to catch these bastards? The officer that arrived to my house was very kind and helpful, as we were waiting for the criminalistics to get here we were chatting, he even went so far to mention when they go to pawn shops they see the same names over and over again on the slips.. If this is the case why arent they looking into those people more? Like i said i get it, the cops could be busy with more important cases, but the people of the town should have been notified sooner. Not days after this started happening.

Maybe if the Parasite Legal System that makes doing anything illegal, like putting stuff in your own body illgegal while letting corporations poison us with crappy pharma, toxic waste, radioactive water spills etc wasnt around there would be no crime. Why are drugs illegal, we put chemicals in our body everyday, most put profit in the hands of the parasites who call themselves our leader so its ok, but the whole drugs is evil is just a load of nonsense, people have been taking opium for thousands of years, but now suddenly they are evil? No, its cause its easier to take away the rights of the individual when you got the masses dumbed down and afraid. Let people choose their own path and let them put whatever in their body and decriminalize drugs and the crime epidemic will trickle down to nothing, oh wait, the union parasite cops wont have a job, they might have to actually find real work instead of using the system to feed off the weak and broken. F@ck the law of the parasite
