Police: 'Erratic' Driver Charged With DUI

A Forked River man was charged with driving under the influence and possession of heroin

A Forked River man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after police found him to be driving erratically.

Derek Russell, 21, was observed driving erratically by a Lacey Township Detective on Wednesday, July 11. Russell appeared to be extremely lethargic when the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Route 9, police said.

The vehicle proceeded south on Route 9 where Waretown Police and Lacey Detectives conducted a traffic stop. Russell was found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Russell was charged with driving under the influence and possession of heroin. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
