New Cable Lineup, Philly HD Feeds for Comcast Customers
Comcast will discontinue some old channels numbers, carry HD feeds of Philadelphia local stations
Are you an Eagles football fan? Do you get your weather forecast from Cecily Tynan on Action News or Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz of NBC 10?
If so, you'll be able to see all three in HD by the end of this week.
Comcast of Toms River will fulfill a longtime request of many of its local customers by adding the high definition feeds of the local network television stations broadcast from Philadelphia. The addition, as well as some other changes, are set to go into effect Friday.
Comcast – and the companies that preceded it in most of Ocean County – has always offered the feeds of both New York City and Philadelphia network stations, however until now, they've carried the Philadelphia stations in standard definition only.
The largest constituency of viewers will doubtlessly be local Philadelphia Eagles fans, who have been relegated to the standard definition feed for most of the Birds' games since HD viewing quickly became mainstream over the course of the past decade.
In addition to the Philadelphia high-def feeds, Comcast will add WLNY and WLNY-HD, a Long Island station owned by CBS, to the Toms River lineup. The Aspire channel, Jewish Life TV, Crime & Investigation, Military History Channel, ESPN Goal Line, Pac12 Network and World Fishing Network also will be added to digital and sports packages.
The company also will tweak the local lineup of high definition channels. For many years, high-def channels were carried in the high 100s and 200s, but last summer, many were duplicated in the 800s-1000s range when a slew of new channels were added to the overall lineup.
On Friday, the old lower-numbers lineup will go away. We've attached a PDF file of the new lineup to this article, but tuning in the major network HD feeds shouldn't be too hard to remember. They are:
WCBS (2, CBS) - 802
KYW (3, CBS) - 903
WNBC (4, NBC) - 804
WNYW (5, FOX) - 805
WPVI (6, ABC) - 906
WABC (7, ABC) - 807
WWOR (9, MyTV) - 809
WCAU (10, NBC) - 910
WLNY (10, Ind.) - 810
WPIX (11, CW) - 811
WPHL (17, MyTV) - 907
WTXF (29, FOX) - 905
The company said in a media release that keeping the HD lineup together, rather than dispersed in different channel ranges, will make it easier on customers. The same goes for placing network affiliate HD channels on numbers that correspond with their heritage dial placement.
Comcast of Toms River's system includes Barnegat, Beachwood, Berkeley, Cedar Bonnet, Eagleswood, Island Heights, Lacey, Lakehurst, Little Egg Harbor, Manchester, Ocean, Ocean Gate, Pine Beach, Stafford, South Toms River, Toms River and Tuckerton.
Similar changes will take place in the Ocean County system, which includes Brick, Point Pleasant Borough, Point Pleasant Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, as well as the LBI system, which covers all the communities on Long Beach Island.

Comcast around here offers the cheapest stuff they can buy and it's just not worth watching. We have cancelled it.
And Bayville doesn't have FIOS though we have been paying for the missing fiber optics on the bottom of our phone bills for YEARS AND YEARS. Verizon recently announced they are not going to spread FIOS all around the land: just going to go where the money is.
The NJ Utility Commission ought to demand those extra charges be removed from non FIOS households and they should think about getting us a refund for all the money taken and not spent here.

Why do we pay the same amount as North Jersey communities that have features like remote dvr, multi-room, and many other features unavailable on the Scientific Atlanta netowork. If we had FIOS as an offering I bet they would upgrade quickly. Glad the town signed these guy up for another decade

I don't know where the responder lives, but I live in Beachwood and the majority of Toms River doesn't have FiOS at all. Theres only the rich part of Toms River where High School North off Old Freehold Road is located.

I also live off of Fischer Blvd. I know a lot of people in Toms River from all different sections that have FiOs. Check the facts before you say it is only off of Old Freehold Road. I am nowhere near there and have it for over 3 years.

Silverton area has FiOS and I made the change after the last Comcast rate increase. Beware: They sneak in little increases almost monthly. FiOS offers more for less.

I am with you. FiOs is the best. Having Comcast was torture. Every time it rained I had no TV. Their solution to everything was "go to the box and unplug the cable for 30 seconds" etc. In over 3 years with FiOs, I have not had one minute of interupted service.

"The company said in a media release that keeping the HD lineup together, rather than dispersed in different channel ranges, will make it easier on customers. The same goes for placing network affiliate HD channels on numbers that correspond with their heritage dial placement." How exactly is what they are doing "keeping the HD lineup together" when they have the Philly channels in the 900 range and the New York channels in the 800 range? What they SHOULD do is have the Philly channels in the 800 range as well such as 803, 806, 810 and so on.

Comcast sucks! They have a contract with Lacey that's why we can't get fios comcast is corrupt they over charge me every month!!! And they are constantly shutting me off because I have an over due balance even though I pay 200.00$ a month I'm never late and I have is basic cable I hate hate hate comcast...if your having issues with them like I do call corporate they seen I was being over charge and fixed the problem comcast must go!!!!!

Vee, if you are paying $200/month for basic cable only, you are getting royally ripped off. The digital starter basic cable program is $70/month, and there are probably other deals out there that are even better.
You have to be proactive with them - call to see if they can offer you a better deal. They usually have the ability to offer a promotional price, and if they don't, say you're considering canceling the service because it's just too expensive.

Many years ago they broke up Ma Bell saying it was a monopoly, Comcast is certainly one, we really have no choice, cannot get FIOS in senior communities, Dish stinks, DirectTV does not offer internet service. I wonder how much politicians were paid in order for Comcast to reign supreme.

FIOS !!!!!.... We signed up 2 years ago under the 89 bucks a month for TV, Internet, and Phone. My 2 year agreement was up end of this month, I thought I was going to have to pay an arm and a leg.... NOPE... They resigned me for an additional 2 years at the same price. With my boxes and taxes my bill for all three services is a measly $106 bucks a month.
My Dad who lives in Brick, for TV only with Comcast pays a $150 what a sham. between his internet and phone and cable he is paying in excess of $250 a month.

Does anyone here care what happens in Philly? The only good thing to ever happen there was when my grandmother was borh there in 1885. Fortunately her father had the good sense to move to Jersey City when she was 5. All these Philly people do nothing but pollute the Jersey Shore. Forget abnout voter IDs. There should be a requirement to have a New Jersey ID to set foot on a beach and anyone wearing Phillies, Eagles or Flyers gear should be escorted back to the border immediately.

I couldn't agree with you more. Maybe it's because I'm originally from north Jersey and I've been in Toms River for 30 years now but I couldn't give a rat's ass about anything that goes on in Philly. And I hate ALL of their sports teams. All I really follow now is hockey so as long as I have my MSG channels, I'm very happy. And since last year, we have MSG in HD now, too.

Verizon techs havent had a contract since Aug 2011. Verizon has planned layoffs very soon, bout 400 or so techs. They do not want land lines anyway. Way too much money in upkeep. Wireless is where its at for them. They may sell the less money areas here like they did in New England. Comcast is no prize either. I found Dish offered the most for the best price. Worth a look.

Until it rains or snows or the wind blows -- then you might not be able to look at TV. Type your address in at the verizon.com/FiOS website to see if it's available in your neighborhood.

Martin, I have been typing into that Verizon box almost monthly for quite a few years just to let them know there is interest in FIOS. Always a no go for Bayville and the comment made by "Keeping What's Mine" is completely on the money. Verizon is cutting back the employees needed to do the job because they are happy to stop now that the wealthy have been taken care of.
I want a refund on all of those monthly bills where we were surcharged for the cost of installing the fiber optics and the Utility Commission should stop that surcharge for all those who won't be covered - starting right now. We are being taken to the cleaners and that Verizon website doesn't tell you if during your lifetime you can expect to see the stuff arrive.

FiOS is not so great. In your area all FiOS gives you in the way of Philadelphia is WPVI (6ABC) and Comcast Sportsnet Philly. In my area in South Brunswick I would not even get that much if they ever got around to running the Verizon fiber optics to my street.

But you are happy to pay the monthly charge for the fiber optics installation that you will never get? This charge has been on our bills for years and it is one big rip off.
