UPDATE: Lacey in 'Search and Rescue Mode' [PHOTOS]
Lacey schools closed until Monday; more than 12,000 remain without electricity
The township remains in a state of emergency as it is "still in search and rescue mode," according to an update from the Municipal Clerk and Township Administrator Veronica Laureigh at 2:35 p.m.
Lacey also remains under driving restrictions although some of the roads are busy.
Important Alerts:
- Lacey schools are closed until Monday, Nov. 5.
- Municipal Offices will open on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
- Halloween is canceled until further notice.
- Recycling pick up will resume on Wednesday; garbage on Thursday. Pick up will ocurr on your next regular scheduled day.
- The recycling center is open to accept brush, twigs and branches.
More than 12,000 are without power in Lacey as the township's residents woke up this morning to flooded roads and downed trees.
The back half of Beach Boulevard is inaccessible because of flooding. The township is in "search and rescue mode" in the waterfront communities.
"Please note that flooded roadways are hard to determine the depth of the water. Emergency Personnel may not be able to rescue a vehicle if it is in a flooded roadway condition," Laureigh said.
The state Department of Environmental Protection and the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission continue to carefully monitor the impacts Hurricane Sandy had on operations at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Plant.
Last night, the plant suffered power outages, declared an “alert’’ due to rising water levels and lost a portion of its warning alarm system.
The plant is temporarily being powered by backup diesel generators and a combustion turbine engine, which are providing energy for water pumps that cool the fuel stored in the reactor until normal power sources are restored.
The NRC, in a statement, noted that Oyster Creek remains in “safe condition,’’ with agency inspectors on site. “It also anticipates that water levels will abate within the next several hours,’’ returning to normal levels.

Ok who's idea was it to not allow homowners back to their properties off beach blvd ?
This is not Russia or Nazi Germany ! I stayed in there last night and came over bridge to check on business today at 8am. Now they won't let me home even to get clothes and water/feed the cats ! This is assinine. There is one measly 6 inch puddle on egress to my home and even though officer knows who I am, I can't go home ! By the way, who was the car before me who got to go over bridge to his house ? I am livid. this is wrong. meanwhile no police at main lights with no power. unreal.

Someone just called in to WABC 77 and said parts if Lacey and Whiting had power restored already. Anyone know if this is true?

We're in Cranberry Hill area of Forked River. Our power was restored at 6:30 AM after being out for 13 hours.
Last time I drove around part of town, noonish, most was still out.

Bay Way is passable...I live on Bay Way. However, there was flooding at Clairmore, which is the road that Bay Way turns into to access Meadowlark. As of today, I am not sure if all the water has receded or not, but it was bad on Monday/Tuesday. Folks down in that area still do not have power. Good luck, and I hope your home is OK.

Looked like it made it through, see pictures above, I could only get pictures of the marina facing Pine Street/Bow spirit. Hope this helps if you had a boat there.

To Mr Conscious since there is no reply button to your post..Yes I stayed on my high ground property as is my constitutional right. I did not endanger ANYBODY after leaving at 8am.
There were many of us on the roads as there is only a 6 inch deep puddle on Pensacola. Yes I checked it was not deep and flowing to cause loss of life or property.
I am saying it is stupid to not let people get back to their home if it is not flooded.
There was no possibility of me or the MANY on my street who stayed getting flooded like those on the low bay streets.

Today is Wednesday. I thank everyone for all the pixs and updates about Forked River Beach. It is awful waiting to know if we have a house to come home to after this storm. We paid attention to the evacuation mandate, and left. Now we are waiting for word that it is safe or not. I wish the police would give us an update on the condition of Beach Blvd. I want to come home, and start dealing with what I have to deal with. I have lived on the beach for 25 years and I have never seen Beach Blvd. flood over. The most was overflow to the middle line of the road about 20 years ago. I was glad to hear some of Lacey's power is back. It's always nice to be warm and able to light the house. If anyone has news about Beach Blvd. or Tamiami Rd on Forked River Beach, please post what you know. Thanks.

I was at laurel harbour marina yesterday and it looked ok. The road was blocked at that point and the guy said it was only safe to go to 800 laurel blvd. we have a house all the way at the end and want to know the damage if anyone has info.

I saw the marina on Friday, November 2. All the boats looked good, except for one in the boat yard, a sale boat was tipped to one side from the high winds. The marina looked better, now that the water went down to normal. I hope this helps.
