People are so quick to make rude comments and judge. I'm not looking for confrontation or a debate, but I wish some of you would look at this from the disease concept. Selling drugs is not the right thing to be doing, and it is illegal, no doubt about that... However... This is an 18-year-old kid with the disease of addiction living in a seedy motel trying to keep a roof over his head, food in his mouth, and avoid being sick of course. Most of you would say "Go get help" but it's not always that simple. Some people aren't educated on treatment options, don't have the money or health insurance, or don't have the support of a family to come home to or a sober environment to come home to. Most people think that addicts are low-lifes and scum of the earth but in reality if you took the time out to educate yourself on the disease of addiction you would know that for addicts it's a sick obsession that changes your thought process and actions. Again I'm not looking for a debate or a fight or for others to lash out on me, just to better understand what people like Nick go through. Now, because of a disease he didn't choose to have (you're an addict way before you ever pick up your first drug) he'll have to pay for the rest of his life. And don't forget how embarassing this is for his family. Just take a second and really think before you point the finger... You should actually feel sorry for him and thank God you aren't affected by the disease of addiction.

N i also love how ppl r bashing his parents...what a 18 year old who no longer lives at home (by his own choice) does is out of their hands. So people need to stop being judgemental and critisizing when the kid id alredy in deep shit. Im sure he is humiliated and he 100% deserves to be where he is at and its a huge life lesson learned. But ppl need to stop bashing his family they most likely didnt know shit about what he was up to and if they did it would of been handled before this happened.

The war against drugs can never be won. It's a disease that unfortunately is the new HIV. People look down on it with "disgust" just like 'frank rizzo' said. But the fact of the matter is that it's a proven fact recovery is possible when treatment and working a program is taken seriously. Jail only postpones the issue and teaches you how to be a better drug addict. And I'm sorry but uneducated and negative comments like yours, Frank, is not proactive in any way. People need to start accepting this is an illness and continue the effort to educate people on addiction and offer long-term treatment and relapse prevention instead of jail or prison. Your an addict way before you ever pick up your first drug. It's an obsession to get out of yourself. Do the research. Sit through an open 12-step meeting like AA or NA. See for yourself that recovery is possible.

yeah armed and equal while youre trying to figure out what spa to send them to there are people in this town who dont feel safe anymore. you can go figure out why they werent hugged as kids in the meantime they prey on seniors and others. dont classify all people as addicts there are some who occasionaly like to smoke a joint before watching a dvd and youre putting them in the same category as someone who is selling heroin to 20 yr olds. in my day we all partied but we knew playing with needles was a big no no. who should pay for these people to go to rehab? perhaps the old lady who just got robbed should have her taxes go towards touchy feely group sessions for the kid who robbed her. thats the real world you can sit and play koom bye ya all you want.

when i went to high school in the 70s we had cigarette commercials and there were no rehabs . no one told us what was good or bad we had to figure it out for ourselves. when i see some 17 yr old smoking cigarettes i dont feel any sympathy for him. he has the benefit of all the info he can find on the internet and a million other source we never had the benefit of. . that goes for drugs too. there are warning labels on everything nowadays if that kid thinks its cool to smoke butts or play with heroin they unlike my generation cant say they havent been warned.

Frank I'm not fighting you on this and you're entitled to your opinion. Unfortunately drugs are always gunna be everywhere you go that's just a fact. I'd like to start off by saying I don't get where I classified all people as addicts. Addiction is a gene it's a proven scientific fact. As far as sending addicts to the spa... Idk if that's sarcasm or what but I don't get what point you're trying to make so I'll leave that one alone. Idk why people don't feel safe in this town - probably because the second someone get arrested the entire town finds out. Like I just said there are going to be drugs everywhere you go. Also you said something to me about "classifying" when you're classifying all addicts as people who automatically rob and hurt the elderly. That's not true. And yes rehab IS necessary because these people need to learn about their disease and how to learn about recovery. These things don't just happen overnight. Addiction does run deep, so much deeper than just wanting to get high, and yes sometimes childhood events do have something to do with it. And as far as there being warning labels on everything... I think you just answered your own question. Why would someone use drugs after all the education we learn about it in school? Because they are ADDICTS! No sane person would ever pick up a drug after everything we learned about it! They are sick before they ever pick up a drug! That's the whole disease concept you're missing.
