King Approved as Lacey Middle School Principal
King's salary as Principal of Lacey Middle School was set at $115,000
James Handschuch and Jason King approached the podium as a team Monday as they have been at Lacey Middle School for the last four years as principal and vice principal respectively.
“It’s a great honor,” King said. “I wish James luck in the new position. I will carry on the proud tradition that we started. His old door, my new door, is always opened.”
King will be replacing former principal James Handschuch, who was recently hired as principal of Lacey Township High School. The position at the high school opened after the Board of Education appointed current Principal William Zylinski as a new district supervisor as part of an administrative reorganization in May.
“We expect great things and we’re all very happy,” Board President Jack Martenak said of both Handschuch and King.
"We hired King in large part because of the outstanding job he's done as Vice Principal of the Middle School," Martenak said, adding that King played an integral role in the school's new block scheduling and curriculum development. "He brings enthusiasm and a new set of ideas."
King’s salary will be $115,000 and his tenure as principal would be from Monday, July 9, to Sunday, June 30, 2013. As vice principal, King made $87,885 in 2010.
“I know the middle school is in great hands. He’s ready to take the reins. Making the decision to move onto the high school knowing the middle school was in such great hands made the decision easier,” Handschuch said.
The board approved Handschuch’s salary at $134,000 from Sunday, July 1, to Sunday, June 30, 2013. He previously made $111,019 as principal of the middle school in 2011.
“It’s very exciting,” Board Member Maureen Tirella said. “We have some people coming from out of district and then some people who are moving on to a bigger challenge and moving up. I think it’s all very exciting. It looks like we’re going to have a great new school year.”
