Jersey, an two-year-old Malinois is looking for a home
Like so many Jersey Shore residents, Jersey, a two-year-old Malinois, was also displaced after Hurricane Sandy.
Jersey's owner’s home became uninhabitable and when he relocated, he couldn’t bring the dog with him.
“He wasn’t ready to take him back,” said Tiffany Price of the Associated Humane Societies.
After more than two months at the Associated Humane Societies and Popcorn Park Zoo, Jersey is now up for adoption in Forked River.
“He’s playful. He’s friendly. Housebroken. He’s been really good since he’s got here,” she said.
The Malinois breed is a working dog, so Jersey enjoys “activities and keeping busy,” she said.
Jersey is not accustomed to being around other animals, she said.
“He’s a really good dog,” she said.
Popcorn Park's web advertisement for Jersey describes him as outgoing, friendly, personable, loving, energetic, young and playful.
"Jersey is not letting his current situation get him down and his beautiful smile never seems to fade," the ad says. "It's hard not to love him, when he leans against you and looks up at you to pet him...Jersey is well behaved and sits nicely when asked, and also waits patiently when it's his turn to go for a walk."

Has the owner agreed to the release of his dog to be adopted? Was there any attempt to reach an agreement to allow the owner to fund the dog's stay at the Humane Society so that the dog could be returned to him at a later date? Was there any attempt to make such an offer?

Gene, Popcorn Park offers emergency boarding. The agreement between the owner and Popcorn Park was that Jersey would be housed at the facility for no charge for 31 days. If the owner didn't pick him up by the end of that timeframe, Jersey would be put up for adoption. The owner did not pick him up. Popcorn Park called the owner to notify him and he said he was unsure if and when he would ever be able to pick up Jersey. Popcorn Park and social workers determined that Jersey should be put up for adoption at this point.

472 W Veterans Hwy, Jackson, NJ.? They take animals in and care for them until the owner is able to come and take their cat/dog home again

I never heard of that place Seers Farm..thanks for the heads up Barb...will write that down for future needs of others.
I guess the owner of Jersey don't care anymore about the dog since its been two months now at Popcorn.

John: I read about Seers Farms in of all places the People Mag. They take dogs, cats in when their owners say lost their jobs, lost their apartments and probably in the case of Hurricane Sandy take in your pet. They are a not for profit place and rely on donations. You can go and donate food or volunteer. Once the person is on their feet again they can come and get their pet back.

I would love to have Jersey..but have two dogs now, not sure all three will get along, plus Jersey not great with other animals they say.

The owner should have NOT moved to a place where he could not take his dog. He should have looked harder. END of discussion!
