Dewey's Dogs Still Searching for a Permanent Home

Longtime hot dog vendor continues to seek new location

Though a popular, year-round hot dog stand that has been a part of Lacey Township for 12 years will eventually be displaced, Dewey’s Dogs is still going strong and continuing its search for a new permanent location to attract customers.

In January of this year, . Since that time, owner Anthony Geiger has embarked on finding another place for Dewey’s Dogs to continue doing business.

“I was told that I can’t be on a lot where there’s an established building. I don’t necessarily want to open up a store of my own, but if I have to at that point, I will,” Geiger commented. “The owner of the lot here (on the corner of Route 9 and Lakeside Drive) told me that he didn’t plan on building until the spring.”

Loretta Rule, Zoning Officer of Lacey Township, could not be reached for comment. Mayor Gary Quinn has previously stated that since Dewey’s Dogs had first opened 12 years ago, zoning laws in the township had changed and business stands were no longer a permitted use. This was due to the fact that they represent competition to local businesses paying taxes and bills, according to the mayor.

It had been Mr. Geiger’s understanding that when the laws were changed, he would be grandfathered in under the prior regulations since they were in effect when his business came to Lacey. However, this has not proven to be the case.

If Geiger pursues another location in Lacey Township, he will have to appear before the Zoning Board of Adjustment to obtain a permit – which has been denied to other vendors in the past due to the aforementioned change in town zoning laws.
