What happens if the parents or the students refuse ?

How about random drug testing of people on welfare and receiving public assistance? How about random drug testing of illegal immigrants? Let's have every person employed by the school district subject to the random drug testing at any time of the calendar year. Never knew you had to pass a drug test to go to school.

Parents afraid to have their kids dug tested in school already know what the results would be. Hopefully this will help kids and give them the resources they need, instead of just disciplining them. By the way, anything is better then dead.

It is the responsibility of the school to teach the students language and math skills in preparation for productive careers. It is the responsibility of the parents to teach the students how to live a respectable life. The board of education needs to understand where their responsibility ends and focus on living up to the responsiblities they have.

Test all District employees who coach, mentor, or council the kids for the EXORBATANT STIPENDS(extra money) being paid by tax payers to("for the kids" ) teachers, before they test the extra-cirricular kids. If they can talk the talk, let them walk the walk. If they they REFUSE, they are dirty, keep them away from my kids and get new coachs!!!! I am sick of the BS the NJEA talks about "for the kids" and "employee rights". This is a common sense moral issue. If they break the law, they should not be around kids. If they are clean and dry, they should be proud to demonstrate, by example, the proper way to live in our rule of law society.

Sounds good to me..,It should be a random system You are in a public facility either working or learning .If you say no them it is automatically assumed they are using.. suspension them till you take a test to clear you maybe the high school will lose its Herion high slang term.

How about all of you folks getting off of your safe,lazy, fat, big opinioned butts and show up in real life at this forum to state your views!!!!! I speak my mind ,in person, face to face, with conviction at the BOE meeting and have never seen any of you "really concerned citizens" at any of them. Heather Scanlon and her Municipal Alliance tea totalers should be there with large axes in their hands to grind if they really care about the kids in town and not just the tea and cookies served at their meetings. It is time to walk the walk and not just talk the talk folks.

We should convert Gille Park into a camp called Laceyswitz and put all the positive tested students in there and they can work 16 hour days and make goods for Walmart so we dont have to buy off those freedom hating chinese. God Bless Amerika!

i think it's a good idea. yes, i pay the taxes and they are rising but, i also have a child in the school system. take out all the drug addicts and put them elsewhere. where, you ask? who cares, let the parents and the state figure it out! i don't think our administrators need to waste time concentrating on placing a student in another educational facility. i think it's illegal not to offer the students an education, however, it is also illegal to be using or selling drugs! i would have no problem having my child take a test! maybe for some parents it would be an eye opener to what his/her child is really doing before, during and after school. of course, if it finds itself in the hands of the voters, more than likely, it will be voted against. the snow birds and seniors don't want to pay any more money for a district, with many problems, drugs, being just one of them and one that is, an epidemic! for every offense, a warning? suspension? nope. i say, put them out there, in the parks, scrubbing bathrooms, fences, walls of the graffiti and garbage and vandalism.

This proposition has grave legal implications which I hope the BOE is considering carefully. With all the money that the BOE is already paying law firms, I hope they have a really nice memo they can present to a judge when the lawsuits start flying. First, there is a constitutional amendment which forbids searches and seizures without the authorities first showing probable cause. The random nature of these proposed tests do not meet the thresh-hold for probable cause, hence the proposition violates the fourth amendment. Second, the practice is an invasion of privacy and infringes upon constitutionally protected freedoms. The right to attend public school (much less a drug free school) - however desirable - is nowhere found in the constitution. If my kid were to attend Lacey schools and were subjected to the random testing proposed here, I would sue the school district for civil rights violations. The solution to the drug problem lies elsewhere; it will not be found by violating fundamental constitutionally protected rights.

How does a drug test determine a drug addict and a first time user? While I do believe drug use is getting worse in the Lacey Schools, I still find that to be the responsibility of the parent. I am also curious to the criteria based on issuing a "random" drug test. Most work places have random drug testing as a condition of employment, however they cannot just send you for testing without reasonable cause.

Before testing students...what about the teacher and staff who we pay to teach or children....random testing........my husband drives a truck and the state requires random testing but not reachers wtf

test all kids and be done with it other wise let it go. invade every persons privacy equally

In my old high school they did random drug testing the year after I left 7 years ago. They way they would do it was, people playing sports automatically get tested. And then once a week they will randomly select 25 students out of a computer drawing and then call them down to nurses office to take a test.

1st failed is just a warning
2nd failed is counseling at school
3rd failed is a week suspension
4th failed is expulsion

This meeting will actually be in the high school media center.
