Community Forum to be Held on Random Drug Testing of Students

The school district will hold an open community forum on the possibility of random drug testing its students on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. in the high school media center.
The Board of Education’s Policy Committee announced that it was considering moving forward on developing a policy that would permit random drug testing of its students in October.
The concept is still under review, Vice President Eric Schubiger said at the board’s meeting in December.
“We want public feedback,” he said.
In a non-scientific Lacey Patch poll, 70 percent of voters would be in support of the school district randomly drug testing students.
The idea was initially recommended to the board in January when a resident voiced concerns about the rising drug problem in Lacey Township.
Schubiger previously said drug testing is something the district’s policy committee, which is made up of him, board members Maureen Tirella and Bruce Carney and Superintendent Dr. Sandra Brower, has been actively considering through research.
