Cause of Fatal One-Car Accident Still Under Investigation

Penelope Jones-Scarpa died in a one-car accident on the Garden State Parkway

The cause of a one-car accident on the Garden State Parkway is still under investigation.

Penelope Jones-Scarpa, 39, of Forked River was pronounced dead at 3:25 a.m. on March 6 after driving off the highway and striking a line of trees.

Details of the cause of the accident are still unknown as the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office waits on toxicology and other scientific results, said Michael Mohel, deputy chief of county investigators.

Jones-Scarpa, a 1990 graduate of Lacey Township High School, was a single mother on her way home from work at a Jumping Brook bar, near Route 66, in Neptune.
