Application for Dewey's Dogs Pushed to December

The application before the Planning Board seeking a variance to allow Dewey’s Dogs to be stationed on the Forked River House Plaza lot was deemed incomplete at Monday’s meeting.

In addition to seeking permission to allow Dewey’s Dogs to occupy a portion of the lot, the owner of the Forked River House Plaza is looking to amend site hours and add a solar carport and panels on the roof.

“The applicant did not submit the appropriate information to the board engineer in time,” Mayor Gary Quinn said.

Dewey’s Dogs has been stationed in a vacant lot for 12 years but in January, the Planning Board , where the food truck currently sits.

Anthony Geiger, who operates Dewey’s, has been working ever since to find a new location. He also had to take a second job just in case Dewey’s does not have a new site before construction of the office building begins.

According to Quinn, Geiger will no longer be able to do business in Lacey. The zoning laws in town have changed since Dewey’s started business. Business stands are no longer a permitted use in Lacey because they compete with local businesses that pay taxes and bills, Quinn said.

Geiger believed Dewey’s would not be threatened since his business was established before the new laws took effect, he said.

If Dewey’s Dogs is permitted to operate at the Forked River House Plaza, the truck would sit on the grass next to the Forked River Animal Hospital, where patrons would be expected to park.

The application will be heard at the next Planning Board meeting on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
